Nenagh.ie 10K 2014

Nenagh.ie are hosting the Annual 10K run on Sunday 12th of October with all proceeds from the event been given to this year’s chosen charity – Horse Riding for the Disabled Nenagh Branch.

Horse Riding for the Disabled Nenagh Branch has been providing the opportunity for disabled people to enjoy and benefit from horse riding for the last 20 years to various groups around the Nenagh Area. This charity is run solely by a group of Volunteers.

The aim of Horse Riding for the Disabled Nenagh Branch is to broaden the physical, intellectual and social horizons of people with special needs. They provide this service in Nenagh Equestrian Centre every Wednesday morning. The various groups that benefit from this magnificent service are The Autistic Units in Kildangan N.S, Killenaive N.S, Dromakeenan N.S, Roscrea, St. Annes Special School, Roscrea, Ormond Resources and St. Cronan’s Nenagh.

Those who operate this Service strive to enhance the quality of life for their users and the benefits include learning a skill, increasing self-confidence, improve posture, co-ordination and balance as well as improving self-awareness and the ability to interact socially in a group.

Volunteer Mary Shiels was delighted to hear about the fundraising event saying; “The raised money will go directly towards paying for the equestrian centre and helmets.”

The 10k race will start and finish from MacDonagh Park GAA grounds, with runners and walkers under starters orders at 10:30am sharp.

To register for the race please visit www.nenagh.ie/festivals/nenagh-10k. Online registration costs €15 + €1 booking fee and closes on Friday 10th October. Alternatively you can register on the morning of the event between 9.00am and 10.00am for €20. The first 200 entrants registered will receive a FREE high visibility dry fit running T-shirt so be sure to register very soon!

Each entrant will receive a medal to signify their participation in the event. All Runners/Walkers will be given a number and timing chip on the morning to monitor their performance. It is the second Nenagh.ie 10k run/walk and is expected to gather a large crowd from around the county of experienced and novice runners alike. Participants will be glad to know it is a flat 10k route, with fast running times expected. If you don’t want to participate in the run/walk, but would still like to help, we are looking for volunteers to act as marshals on the route. If this is something you wouldn’t mind helping with, please call Louisa on 067 44444.

Nenagh.ie and Horse Riding for the Disabled Nenagh Branch would like to say a huge thank you to the sponsors of the event; ABP Nenagh, Proctor & Gamble, Michael Scroope Insurances, Equistyle, Sheedy’s Centra and Breo Jewellers.

Also thanks to Nenagh Eire Og GAA Club for the use of their facilities on the day of the event. The sponsor’s generosity has helped hugely in getting the event up and running.

Please show you care and support this event.
