Two new World Records set in Lough Derg - Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club Notes

Two new World Records were set in Lough Derg on Sunday July 7th. Christopher Healy set the fastest 10km length scuba dive and set a new record of the longest distance travelled while scuba diving of just over 21km. He travelled the 10km in 5 hours and 38 minutes and the 21km took him 11 hours and 14 minutes. Members of local Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club along with others provided boat and diver cover and the Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat was also on hand if needed. The dive was done to raise money and awareness for the Share a Dream Foundation and The Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Christy began the dive after 4am and surfaced in Killaloe/Ballina as part of The Feile Brian Boru festival which took place at the weekend. A large crowd of onlookers waited anxiously on the jetty to see how far he was going to go, with some exclaiming that he might stay going as far as Limerick! A rousing cheer from onlookers and fog horn blasts from moored boats signalled his surface after the gruelling dive.
