TIPPERARY GAA SCENE

BORD GAIS ENERGY MUNSTER UNDER 21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Tipperary will play Clare in the Bord Gais Energy Munster Under 21 hurling championship on Wednesday August 7 at 7.30pm at Semple Stadium. Tipperary and Clare have met on 25 previous occasions in the under 21 championship with 19 wins for Tipperary, 5 for Clare and 1 draw in 1984. They have met in 8 previous finals with 7 wins for Tipp - 1972, 1983, 1985, 1995, 1999, 2008 and 2010. Clare won in 2012. The last final in Thurles between the counties was on July 28 2010 when Tipp won by 1-22 to 1-17 having led by 1-12 to 1-9 at half time. Tipp’s top scorer was Mikey Heffernan with 1-3. That Tipp team, captained by Padraic Maher, went on to win the All Ireland title as did Clare last year when they had their first Munster final victory over Tipperary. We wish the Tipperary team and management all the best for their preparations and the game.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The 3 remaining Clean Ireland Recycling county senior hurling championship Round 3 fixtures have been finalised following confirmation of the Munster under 21 hurling final for August 7. Roscrea will play Moycarkey Borris on Sunday evening next, August 4 at 7.30pm in Templemore. Borris-Ileigh will play Burgess on Saturday, August 10 at 7pm at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh and Templederry Kenyons will play Toomevara on Saturday August 17 at 7pm at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh. Extra time will be played in all these games if necessary. Nenagh Eire Og qualified for Round 4 by defeating Upperchurch Drombane last weekend and Silvermines and Carrick Swans are also in Round 4 as losing divisional finalists.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SENIOR HURLING RELEGATION
The Clean Ireland Recycling senior hurling relegation semi-final replay between Boherlahan Dualla and Golden Kilfeacle was abandoned due to a long delay as a result of an injury to a Golden Kilfeacle player. We understand that the injury turned out not to be as serious as originally feared which is good to report. The game has been refixed for Friday, August 9 at 7pm in Holycross with extra time in the event of a draw.
SEAMUS O RIAIN CUP SEMI-FINALS
The Seamus O Riain Cup senior hurling semi-final between Borrisokane and Thurles Sarsfields resulted in a 1-24 to 2-16 victory for Sarsfields. They will play Carrick Davins in the final in Clonmel Sportsfield on Sunday August 18 at 6.30pm and no doubt there will be some historic comparisons made to the great rivalry between these sides in the 1960s.
DIVISIONAL HURLING FINALS
Congratulations to Killenaule and Kildangan on their respective victories in the South and North senior hurling championship finals at the weekend. Killenaule had a 1-22 to 2-16 victory over Carrick Swans in Clonmel Sportsfield on Saturday evening while Kildangan’s early goal fest saw them secure a 5-15 to 0-8 victory over Silvermines.
The West senior hurling final between Clonoulty Rossmore and Eire Og Annacarty Donohill will be played this Sunday, August 4 at Kickham Park at 3pm. The Mid final between Drom and Inch and Loughmore Casteleiney will be on Sunday, August 11.
TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW
The monthly Tipperary Clubs draw takes place next Friday night, August 2 at The Ragg Lounge at 9.30pm sharp. The hosting club, Drom and Inch, are holding a Table Quiz immediately after the Draw, hence the sharp commencement time. Presentation of Prizes will take place to July prize winners, Margaret Tobin (JK Brackens Club), winner of a Skoda car or €15,000 and Eddie Buckley (Drom and Inch), winner of a Skoda car or €10,000. Please come along and support the draw and the table quiz.
BUSY SUNDAY FOR SEMPLE STADIUM
Well done to the Semple Stadium management committee, the Stadium staff, stewards and all others who contributed to the successful staging of the All Ireland senior hurling championship quarter finals and the Galway v Laois minor hurling quarter final at Thurles on Sunday. It was great to see a large crowd in attendance and we wish the winners all the best for the All Ireland semi-finals.
TIPPERARY GAA CREDIT CARD
Bank of Ireland has informed the Tipperary Supporters Club that, following a review of their policy on all affinity credit card schemes, the Bank has decided to cease issuing Tipperary GAA Credit Cards as well as many of the other Bank of Ireland affinity credit card schemes also. The Bank will be writing individually to each Tipperary Credit Card holder shortly to inform them of this decision and of the options open to those customers. This is a disappointing decision as the Tipperary Credit Card has generated funds of over €50,000 for hurling in Tipperary and the Card has been very popular with card holders. It appears that there is no chance of reversing the decision. We would like to thank all those who have been involved with this successful fund raising scheme, especially those Tipperary supporters who made it a success by applying for and using the card. We would also like to thank the staff in Bank of Ireland who were involved in launching the card and promoting it over the years, both in head office and in the branches in Tipperary, and the Tipperary players and management who helped in publicising the card. The Tipperary Supporters Club is anxious to build on the goodwill and experience of the Tipperary Credit Card to explore other options for replacement or alternative schemes for fundraising. The Club would be happy to hear feedback from holders of the Tipperary Credit Card or from other Tipperary supporters about their views and ideas for future activities. In particular, the Club would ask every Tipperary Credit Card holder to provide their name, address and telephone number so that the Club can investigate whether an alternative credit card offer can be put in place from another bank. KELLOGG'S CUL CAMPS
The 2013 Kellogg’s Cul Camps are now in full swing across the county with four weeks of camps completed to date. Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps provide boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 with an action-packed and fun-filled week of activity which revolves around maximising enjoyment and sustaining participant involvement in Gaelic Games. Three Tipperary clubs, Galtee Rovers, Ballingarry and Moneygall host Cul camps this week and next week from Monday to Friday Lattin/Cullen, Clonakenny, Gortnahoe/Glengoole, Cashel King Cormacs and Moyne/Templetuohy will host camps. We wish all the participants an enjoyable week and thank all those involved in the coaching and organisation of the camps.
BENEFIT NIGHT FOR CHRISTIAN FLANNERY FUND AND TEMPLE STREET HOSPITAL
At Clonmel Greyhound Stadium on Sunday August 4 at 7.30pm a special benefit night will take place with admission €10 for adults and children free. A group of individuals have formed a committee to raise some much needed funds for the family of the late Christian Flannery. The funds will go towards alleviating Christian’s parents of the financial burden that has been placed upon them in this most difficult time. Temple Street Children’s Hospital will also benefit from this fund. Christian was seriously injured while galloping greyhounds with his father at home and subsequently passed away a month later in Temple Street Hospital. Christian’s two passions in life were hurling and greyhounds. Christian would be seen regularly walking the dogs with his Dad, at the local track or on the coursing fields during the winter months. He loved GAA in general but hurling was number one, he was captain of the Clerihan under 8 team and Christian was a very proud young man on the day he lifted the team’s first trophy, he attended many of Tipperary’s hurling games with his family and to wear his Tipp jersey was always a joyous day for Christian. Eoin Kelly was his hero and on hearing of Christian’s accident Eoin very generously made time to visit him in Temple St Hospital to wish him well. Christian’s family are actively involved in Clerihan GAA Club where Christian began to learn the skills and thrills that comes with GAA, he was a very promising young player and will always and forever be remembered in Clerihan GAA Club. The Committee would kindly ask clubs to consider making a donation towards this worthy cause and to come along on the night to show your support.
