ALL IRELAND INTERMEDIATE HURLING FINAL
Good luck to the Intermediate hurlers and management team for the All Ireland final against Kilkenny at Nowlan Park on Saturday evening next, August 31 at 6pm. The game will be refereed by Tony Carroll of Offaly and will go to extra time in the event of a draw. Tipperary will be attempting to retain the title they won at Semple Stadium last year by defeating Kilkenny on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-17. It’s a fine achievement to have qualified for the final again having had to use a completely new panel from that which played in last year’s final. We would ask Tipperary supporters to come out in force on Saturday evening to cheer on the Intermediate team as there is bound to be a large Kilkenny attendance.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Nenagh Éire Óg and Loughmore Castleiney qualified for the county senior hurling championship quarter finals with wins over Silvermines and Roscrea respectively last Saturday evening. Nenagh Eire Og won by 1-21 to 0-8 while Loughmore Castleiney conceded 2 late goals to win by 0-21 to 2-11. Loughmore Castleiney will play in their 24th county senior hurling quarter final this year. Their first was in 1983 and most recent in 2012 and they have won 11 and lost 12 to date. Nenagh Eire Og will play their 17th and they won 9 and lost 7 of the previous 16. Their first was in 1982 and last in 2011. The remaining 2 quarter-finalists will be decided on Saturday September 7 at Holycross when Borris-Ileigh play Carrick Swan at 2.30pm and Toomevara play Clonoulty Rossmore at 4.30pm.
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS MATCH PASS FOR JUST €75
As we approach the latter stages of the Clean Ireland Recycling County hurling and football championships, Tipperary County Board is pleased to announce that it has launched a special county championships match pass costing just €75. The pass will enable holders to attend all remaining county championship games at senior, intermediate, junior and minor in both codes and under 21 hurling (football completed earlier in the season). The pass offers excellent value given the number of games which can be attended between now and the completion of all championships. The pass is transferable thereby enabling the owner to pass it on if he/she cannot attend a particular game. Please note that the pass cannot be used to attend divisional games or juvenile games.
ATTENDANCES AT COUNTY CLUB GAMES UP
Following a few years of declining attendances, it is good to be able to report an increase in attendances at county championship games so far this year. The county senior hurling championship attracts the largest attendances and has been very well supported to date. There are now 10 teams left in the SHC and while Drom and Inch are deserving favourites, the other 9 teams will all feel they have a chance of lifting the Dan Breen Cup on October 13 next. Attending county championship games offers an ideal good value opportunity for families to support their local clubs as all under 16s attend for free. Local community support is always a big boost to a club when it plays important knock-out games so we would encourage everybody to support their local club for the rest of the season irrespective of the grade or code of the championship.
ALL IRELAND FINALS TICKETS
A very small allocation of tickets will be made to each club for the All Ireland hurling and football finals. It is the first time since 2008 that a Tipperary team will not feature on at least one of the All Ireland days. The hurling tickets will be distributed via divisional boards this week.
NATHAN CARTER CONCERT ALMOST SOLD OUT
Tipperary GAA is delighted to present renowned country music star, Nathan Carter, in concert at the Clonmel Park Hotel on Saturday October 26. Special guests include Louise Morrissey and Marty Daniels. All proceeds will go towards preparation of Tipperary’s inter-county hurling and football teams for 2014. Doors will open at 7pm and tickets, which cost €25 each, are now available from the Clonmel Park Hotel and Lar an Pairce (0504 22702) in Thurles. Advance booking is recommended as tickets are selling fast and less than 100 now remain.
TIPPERARY SUPPORTERS CLUB ALL IRELAND UNDER 16 TOURNAMENTS
The Tipperary Supporters Club sponsored All Ireland under 16 A and B tournaments will take place next Saturday, August 31. The group games and finals will be played in the South Division this year. The A group games will be hosted by Cahir, Moyle Rovers and Clonmel Og with St. Mary’s hosting the finals. The B group games will be hosted by Fr. Sheehy’s and Ballylooby with the final in Ballylooby. The A groups are as follows: 1) Cork, Dublin, Clare and Waterford; 2) Offaly, Wexford, Limerick, Kilkenny; 3) Galway, Tipperary, Antrim and Laois. The B groups are as follows: 1) Clare, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Kerry; 2) Galway, Cork, Wexford and Waterford. The tournaments were previously played over 2 days but under a new directive, they must be played in one day so it will certainly be an action packed Saturday around South Tipperary. We wish Bord na nOg, the participating teams and the host clubs best wishes for fine weather, good hurling and exciting games. Thanks are also due to Tipperary Supporters Club for their continued sponsorship of the event. Tipperary’s A team play their games in Cahir with the first outing against Galway at 10.30am with games to follow against Antrim at 12.15pm and against Laois at 2pm. The B team will play its group games in Ballylooby.

BORD GAIS ENERGY ALL IRELAND UNDER 21 HURLING FINALS
The BGE All Ireland under 21 hurling finals will be played at Semple Stadium on Saturday September 14. The B final between Kerry and Kildare will be at 3pm and will be refereed by Fergal Horgan of Knockavilla Kickhams. Getting to referee an All Ireland final is a great achievement for Fergal in his first year on the national referees’ panel. Congratulations and well done to him and his team of umpires. The A final is the novel pairing between Antrim and Clare and will be at 5pm with Colm Lyons of Cork as referee. Both games will go to extra time if necessary and both will also be shown live on TG4.
