AIB MUNSTER GAA HURLING JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL
Hard luck to Knockshegowna on their AIB Munster Hurling Junior club championship semi-final defeat by Ballysaggart of Waterford at Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Sunday last. The score was Ballysaggart 1-12, Knockshegowna 1-5. This defeat completes the interests of Tipperary clubs in this years Munster club hurling and football championships.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING JUNIOR B HURLING FINAL
The Clean Ireland Recycling Junior B county hurling final between Holycross Ballycahill and Templederry Kenyons scheduled for Sunday last was postponed due to a bereavement in Holycross Ballychaill. We extend our sympathy to the Fogarty family and Holycross Ballycahill GAA on the death at a young age of Paul Fogarty. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam uasal. The rescheduled game will be in The Ragg on Sunday next December 1 at 2pm. Extra time will be played in the event of a draw. The game will be refereed by Keith Delahunty.

Congratulations to Rockwell Rovers on winning their first county junior B football title when they defeated Clonmel Og by 1-10 to 0-6 at Cahir on Sunday last.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY MINOR B FOOTBALL FINAL
Well done to Upperchurch Drombane on winning the County Minor B football final by 1-9 to 0-10 against Ballyporeen at Golden on Sunday last. This is their second title at the grade having won previously in 2007.
THE LATE FR. ALEC REID
Tipperary County Board was saddened to hear of the death of Fr. Alec Reid. A native of Nenagh, Fr. Reid paid a pivotal role in the Northern Ireland peace process and his great work to bring an end to the Northern troubles has been acknowledged at home and abroad. Fr. Reid was a member of the Tipperary minor hurling panel which won the All Ireland title in 1949 and he was awarded the Tipperary Person of the Year by the Tipperary Association Dublin in April 2006. His courage and commitment are deserving of great admiration and the tributes to him from political and church leaders across the world are testimony to his achievements. His love of Tipperary was often evident in his relatively rare public pronouncements. He is reported on one occasion as saying “God is everywhere, but he prefers to spend most of his time in Tipperary” and Gerry Adams mentioned that when he visited him for the last time in hospital Fr. Reid’s parting words were “Up Tipp”. He certainly did his county and country proud. We extend our sympathy to his family and Redemptorist community. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam uasal.

TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW
The December Tipperary Clubs Draw will take place in Quinlan’s Pub in Moyne on Friday night December 6 at 10pm. Winners of the November Draw including John Hogan of Moyne Templetuohy, who won the Skoda Octavia car or €15,000, will be presented with their prizes. All are welcome to the draw which will be hosted by the Moyne Templetuohy club.
MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWS 2014
The Munster championship draws and advance fixture details for 2014 were confirmed recently. In senior hurling, Tipperary will play Limerick in a semi-final at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday June 1st. In senior football they will also play Limerick with the quarter-final game fixed for Pairc na nGael, Limerick on Saturday May 31. The winners will play Cork in a semi-final. In under 21 hurling Tipperary will be away to the winners of Clare and Limerick in a semi-final on Wednesday July 16. In under 21 football, the first game for Tipperary is a quarter final against Waterford on Wednesday March 12 with the winners playing Clare at a Clare venue on Wednesday March 19. In minor hurling Tipperary play Limerick in a quarter final on Wednesday April 16 at Pairc na nGael, Limerick while in minor football, Tipperary play Waterford in a quarter final at Fraher Field Dungarven on Wednesday April 9.
OBLIGATORY WEARING OF MOUTHGUARDS
Since January 1 2013, it has been mandatory for players in age grades up to and including minor to wear a mouthguard in all Gaelic football practice sessions and games. From January 1st 2014, this rule will apply to Gaelic footballers in all age grades. The key points to note arising from this rule change are: 1) Gaelic footballers in all age grades must wear a mouthguard from January 1 2014; 2) It is the responsibility of each individual player to use a mouthguard; 3) A properly fitted mouthguard is the best available protective device for reducing the incidence and severity of sports-related dental and injuries 4) Players can be sent-off in a game for not wearing a mouthguard; 5) Players will not be covered under the GAA player injury scheme if they don’t comply with the mouthguard rule; 6) No Mouthguard? No Game!
THURLES CBS STUDENTS RAISE €15,000 FOR PETER RYAN& FIGHTING BLINDNESS
On Friday, November 22, at Thurles CBS, past pupil Peter Ryan and Fighting Blindness were presented with a cheque for €15000. Peter, from the Upperchurch-Drombane club, played Harty Cup hurling for three years with Thurles CBS, competing in an All-Ireland (Croke Cup) final in 2008. At the age of 19, Peter was diagnosed with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), a rare genetic disorder resulting in substantial sight loss. Peter, however, has refused to let this setback stop him achieving his goal of becoming an international class athlete. Currently, Peter is training for the tandem cycling event at the 2016 Paralymic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In August, Peter competed at the World championships in Canada and he is an Irish national record holder, despite only taking up the sport in late 2012. Students at Thurles CBS, where Peter’s brothers Conor and Denis are students, raised the vast amount of money, which was donated to Fighting Blindness and Peter’s training fund.
Peter has been involved with Fighting Blindness since 2011 and in that time, he has worked on a number of fundraising events, while also acting as a spokesman for the organisation. We congratulate Thurles CBS on their great achievement in raising this amount of money and we wish Peter every success in his athletic pursuits.
