BY COUNTY PRO GER RYAN

SEAMUS O RIAIN CUP FINAL
The Seamus O Riain Cup senior hurling final between Carrick Davins and Thurles Sarsfields will take place next Sunday evening, August 18 at Clonmel Sportsfield at 6.30pm. Historically, these sides had a famous double encounter in the draw and replay of the 1965 county senior hurling final. The scoreline in the first game at Clonmel was Sarsfields 2-7 Davins 3-4 but Sarsfields won the replay at Cashel by 3-11 to 2-7. Sarsfields won their second five in a row in 11 years that day but Davins went on to win the 1966 and 67 county titles. Every county final between 1955 and 1970 featured at least one of the two clubs. There is also an interesting connection with Seamus O Riain because he wrote the definitive biography of Maurice Davin, founder of the GAA from Carrick-on-Suir and after whom the Davins club is named. Admission will be only €5 with juveniles free. Extra time will be played in the event of a draw. There will be a man of the match award sponsored by Bobby Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Fleming Accountants in Carrick-on-Suir. Bobby is a staunch support of the GAA clubs in the town and of course chaired the committee responsible for the recent erection of a statue in honour of Maurice Davin at Davin Park. The GAA Centre in Clonmel will have music in the bar after the game and all are welcome.

CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Seven of the eight teams in round 4 of the Clean Ireland Recycling senior hurling championship are now known following the West and Mid finals last weekend and the Borris-Ileigh victory over Burgess. In the final round 3 game, Templederry Kenyons will play Toomevara in MacDonagh Park Nenagh on Saturday evening next, August 17 at 7pm with extra time to be played in the event of a draw.   The winners will join Carrick Swan, Silvermines, Clonoulty Rossmore, Loughmore Castleiney (all divisional final losers), Nenagh Eire Og, Roscrea and Borris-Ileigh in Round 4, the draw for which will be made next weekend.

CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SENIOR HURLING RELEGATION
The Clean Ireland Recycling senior hurling relegation final will be played at New Inn on Sunday evening next August 18 at 6.30 pm in New Inn. There will be no extra time in the event of a draw. The losing team will be relegated to Intermediate grade for next year.
