CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The quarter finals of the Clean Ireland Senior Hurling championship will be played this weekend. On Saturday September 14 in Templemore, Killenaule will play Loughmore Castleiney at 3pm while Drom and Inch will play Nenagh Éire Óg at 4.30pm. On Sunday September 15 in The Ragg, Kildangan will play Clonoulty Rossmore at 2pm and Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill will play Borris-Ileigh at 3.30pm. There will be no extra time in the event of draws. Admission each day will be €15 for adults, €10 for students and OAPs with id and juveniles under 16 free. Please note there is a €75 county championship pass available for people attending several games to avail of an overall reduction in admission costs.
The teams have mixed records in quarter final appearances with their played, won, lost and last appearance records as follows: Killenaule – 16 (including 3 as combination), 2, 14, defeated Roscrea 0-15 to 2-7 in 2007; Loughmore Castleiney – 23, 11, 12, defeated Mullinahone 0-22 to 2-11 in 2012; Drom and Inch – 15, 9, 6, defeated Clonoulty Rossmore 2-22 to 0-13 in 2012; Nenagh Éire Óg – 16, 9, 7 – lost to Clonoulty Rossmore 3-18 to 0-14 in 2011; Kildangan – 3, 1, 2 – lost to Thurles Sarsfields 3-22 to 1-12 in 2012; Clonoulty Rossmore – 16, 8, 8, lost to Drom and Inch 2-22 to 0-13 in 2012; Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill – 11 (including 1 as combination), 2, 9, defeated Portroe 1-15 to 1-10 in 2012; and Borris-Ileigh – 16, 8, 8, lost to Mullinahone by 2-21 to 0-21 after extra time in 2011. Three of last year’s semi-finalists – Drom and Inch, Loughmore Castleiney and Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill are in the quarter finals so last year’s form is continuing so far this year for them all.

The preliminary quarter finals of the Clean Ireland Recycling senior football championship have been fixed as follows: Saturday September 21 at New Inn – Cahir v Arravale Rovers at 2.30pm and Galtee Rovers St. Pecaun v Kilsheelan Kilcash at 4pm; Sunday September 22 at Moneygall – JK Brackens v Thomas MacDonaghs at 12 noon.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The Clean Ireland Recycling Intermediate Hurling championship preliminary quarter finals will be played next weekend. On Saturday September 14 at Dolla at 2pm Clonakenny will play Shannon Rovers. On Sunday September 15 at 5pm Arravale Rovers will play Thurles Sarsfields at Kickham Park, Dundrum and Ballybacon Grange or Fr. Sheehys will play Moyne Templetuohy at Golden. Ballinahinch received a bye to the quarter finals where they will join Ballina, Newport, Lattin Cullen Gaels and Sean Treacys.
TIPPERARY GAA CLUBS DRAW
Congratulations to Pat Corbett of Lismore, Co. Waterford who won the Skoda Octavia or €15,000 in the Tipperary Clubs September Draw hosted by the Cahir club in the Cahir House Hotel on Friday night last. His ticket was sold by the Fr. Sheehy’s club. Well done also to Denis Mulcahy of Puckane who won the Skoda Fabia or €15,000. His ticket was sold by the local club, Kildangan. The winner of the Acorn Life sponsored weekend for 2 at Dromoland Castle was Mick Buddy.
THURLES FRESH MILK ACADEMY U17 HURLING
The annual Under 17 Inter-County Hurling Tournament took place in Mallow on Saturday August 31. Under 17 is the final layer of the Thurles Fresh Milk sponsored Academy programme and caters for emerging Minor Hurlers for 2014. Eight teams in total took to the field over a day long series of matches in the Mallow GAA Club complex. Under the management of Liam Cahill, Sean Corbett, John McCormack and Eoin Brislane the squad had a six week training programme in preparation for the tournament. Based in Dr Morris Park they had pre-planned coaching sessions and challenge games to finalise their squad for the tournament.
Tipperary were grouped with Kilkenny, Galway and Cork for three very competitive and worthwhile matches. In the first match Tipperary had a very deserving four point win over Kilkenny which set them up nicely for their second game with Galway. Injuries took their toll in the second half of this game and Tipp had to give way to a good Galway side and lost out by two points. They recovered to record a good victory over Cork in their third. Two wins and one defeat meant scoring differences came in to play and here Tipperary lost out on a place in the Cup Final to Kilkenny by a two point score difference. They advanced however to contest a good game with Clare in the Plate Final. Down at half time Tipperary came back strongly in the second half to have a convincing victory and take the Plate decider. TIPPERARY REACH TG4 LADIES INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL FINAL
Congratulations to the Tipperary intermediate ladies footballers on their 2-9 to 2-8 victory over Fermanagh in the All Ireland semi-final at Semple Stadium on Saturday last. The scoreline does not tell the story of Tipperary’s dramatic victory. Niamh Lonergan scored a sensational winning point with the last kick of the game as Tipperary staged a miraculous comeback to stun Fermanagh by scoring 1-2 in the final minute to set up a final meeting with Cavan at Croke Park on September 29. Tipperary won this competition previously in 2008.
TIPPERARY ALL-IRELAND SEQUENCE AT 18 AND COUNTING
Tipperary’s qualification for the 2013 All-Ireland Intermediate Ladies Football Final stretches to 18 the number of consecutive years which at least one Tipperary team has contested an All-Ireland Final at Croke Park. The consistent run of All-Ireland appearances began back in 1996 when the Tipperary Minor Hurlers defeated Galway after a replay in the All-Ireland Final in Croke Park. The sequence has continued as follows – 1997 (Senior Hurling), 1998 (Junior Camogie), 1999 (Senior Camogie, Minor Hurling), 2000 (Senior Camogie), 2001 (Senior Hurling, Senior Camogie), 2002 (Senior Camogie, Minor Hurling), 2003 (Senior Camogie), 2004 (Senior Camogie), 2005 (Senior Camogie, Tommy Murphy Cup Senior Football), 2006 (Minor Hurling, Under 21 Hurling), 2007 (Minor Hurling), 2008 (Intermediate Ladies Football), 2009 (Senior Hurling), 2010 (Senior Hurling), 2011 (Senior Hurling, Minor Football), 2012 (Minor Hurling) and 2013 (Intermediate Ladies Football). Tipperary’s record in these 24 Croke Park finals is Won 13 Lost 8 Drawn 3.
SEPTEMBER COUNTY BOARD MEETING
The September meeting of Tipperary county board will be held on Tuesday September 24th at 8pm in the Sarsfields Centre. All club delegates are asked to attend.

A small number of All Ireland football final tickets will be allocated to clubs through their divisions this week.
SOME OF CLARE’S TIPP CONNECTIONS
There are of course many cross border GAA connections between neighbouring counties. Among the Tipperary connections in Clare are the fathers of two of Clare’s star hurlers – Conor McGrath and Conor Ryan. Conor McGrath’s father, Joe, hails from Toomevara and played for the club for many years. Conor Ryan’s father, Philip, is from Lattin Cullen and played senior football for Tipperary in the late 1970s and early 80s.

Tipperary County Board extends its deepest sympathy to inter-county referee, Barry Kelly of Westmeath, on the sad passing after a short illness of his wife, Catherine. It also extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Teresa Murphy of Cork, widow of former GAA President, Con Murphy, on her recent death. Ar dheis De go raibh a hanamacha dilis.
