ALL IRELAND INTERMEDIATE HURLING FINAL
Congratulations to the Intermediate hurlers and management team on retaining the All Ireland title by defeating Kilkenny by 2-14 to 2-11 at Nowlan Park on Saturday evening last. Captain David Young of Toomevara received the cup from Leinster Council Chairman, Martin Skelly, and delivered a fine speech. It was a great achievement for the management team of Mick Ryan, Michael Ferncombe, Eamonn O’Dwyer and Sean O’Meara to build a totally new team for this year as all those who played in last year’s final were ineligible for the 2013 championship. Well done to all concerned with this excellent victory and thanks to all the supporters who travelled to Nowlan Park. It was good to come home from Kilkenny with a victory.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The remaining 2 Round 4 games in the Clean Ireland recycling senior hurling championship will be played on Saturday next September 7 at Holycross when Borris-Ileigh play Carrick Swan at 2.30pm (Referee - John O’Brien of Arravale Rovers) and Toomevara play Clonoulty Rossmore (Referee - Noel Cosgrave of Marlfield) at 4.30pm. The draw for the quarter finals will be made later on Saturday night at a County CCC meeting and will be published on social media and the website as soon as possible afterwards. The quarter finals are scheduled to be played on the weekend of September 14 and 15.
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS MATCH PASS FOR JUST €75
As we approach the latter stages of the Clean Ireland Recycling County hurling and football championships, Tipperary County Board is pleased to announce that it has launched a special county championships match pass costing just €75. The pass will enable holders to attend all remaining county championship games at senior, intermediate, junior and minor in both codes and under 21 hurling (football completed earlier in the season). The pass offers excellent value given the number of games which can be attended between now and the completion of all championships. The pass is transferable thereby enabling the owner to pass it on if he/she cannot attend a particular game. Please note that the pass cannot be used to attend divisional games or juvenile games.
DIVISIONAL SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Well done to JK Brackens and Clonmel Commercials on winning the Mid and South divisional senior football championships respectively on Sunday last. Brackens surprised fancied holders Loughmore-Castleiney in the Mid final at Templetuohy with a 2-10 to 1-9 win. County minor star, Colin O'Riordan, was man of the match for the Templemore side. There were no shocks in South Tipperary where favourites Clonmel Commercials proved too strong for Kilsheelan-Kilcash at Monroe, winning by 1-12 to 0-6.
The West SFC final will be between Arravale Rovers and Galtee Rovers following their semi-final wins over Éire Óg Annacarty and Aherlow Gaels respectively.
CLEAN IRELAND RECYCLING COUNTY IHC UPDATE
In the Clean Ireland Recycling County Intermediate Hurling Championship the four group winners from the league stages, Ballina, Newport, Lattin Cullen Gaels and Sean Treacys, have qualified for the quarter finals. The four group runners up, Ballinahinch, Shannon Rovers, Moyne Templetuohy and Thurles Sarsfields, have qualified for the preliminary quarter finals where they will be drawn against the divisional winners, or the divisional runner up or the team that the winners defeated in the divisional semi-final or the team the divisional runners up defeated in the semi-final or failing all that there will be a bye. The latter is the case from the North Division as the 4 teams in the North championship all qualified through the county stages for either the quarter finals or preliminary quarter finals. The teams from the Divisional championships to qualify for the preliminary quarter finals are Arravale Rovers and Clonakenny and they will be joined by the winners of the South championship. This means there will be one bye in the preliminary quarter finals.
TIPPERARY SUPPORTERS CLUB ALL IRELAND UNDER 16 TOURNAMENTS
Tipperary qualified for the finals in both the A and B tournaments run in the South Tipperary division last Saturday. Unfortunately they lost to old rivals Kilkenny in the A final and Cork in the B final. The A final was particularly disappointing as Kilkenny scored 2 goals in the last minute to secure a 2 point victory by 2-4 to 0-8. Joe Tuohy, Secretary of the sponsoring Tipperary Supporters Club, presented the John Doyle Memorial Cup to the Kilkenny captain. Well done to Bord na nOg, the host clubs in South Tipperary and all involved with running this important tournament.
CARRIGDHOUN AND TONY FORRISTAL TOURNAMENTS
Comgratulations to the Tipperary under 15 hurlers on winning the Carrigdhoun tournament by defeating host county Cork by 4-11 to 2-4 in the final. Commiserations to the A and B teams in the Tony Forristal tournament in Waterford. Although unsuccessful they represented the county well.
JOHNNY RYAN LINESMAN FOR ALL IRELAND FINAL
Good luck to Tipperary referee, Johnny Ryan of Boherlahan Dualla, who will be linesman for the All Ireland senior hurling final on Sunday next, September 8, at Croke Park between Cork and Clare. Brian Gavin of Offaly will referee the final. It will be his second senior final having already taken charge of Tipperary v Kilkenny in 2011.
TG4 LADIES FOOTBALL ALL IRELAND SEMI-FINALS
Semple Stadium will host the TG4 Ladies Football All Ireland Semi Finals on Saturday, September 7. Tipperary will play Fermanagh in the Intermediate Semi-final at 2.15pm while the Senior Semi Final is an all Munster affair with Kerry playing Cork at 4pm. Extra time will be played in both games if necessary. This promises to be an exciting day of Ladies Football and Tipperary supporters are asked to come out in force on Saturday to cheer on their team. Admission to Semple Stadium is €10 for adults, €5 for Students / OAP’s while all Under 16s are free.
THE LATE SEAMUS HEANEY RIP
Tipperary County Board extends its sympathy to the family of the late Seamus Heaney on his recent passing. A Nobel laureate and widely recognised as Ireland’s greatest poet of modern times, Seamus Heaney displayed a unique insight in to Irish life in his poetry and was well known for his interest in Irish culture and Gaelic games.
