Things To Do In & Around Nenagh This Weekend

Nenagh Country Market

For a real taste of home baking visit Nenagh Country Market which takes place in the New Institute, Friar Street each Friday morning from 8.00am to 1.30pm. Locally produced goods include tarts, cakes, buns, fruit cakes, cheese cakes, lasagnes, quiches, breads, jams & chutneys, free range eggs, chickens and ducks. A wide range of locally grown potatoes and vegetables are also available.

Dromineer Literary Festival 2014

The Dromineer Literary Festival takes place from Thursday 2nd October to Sunday 5th October. This festival celebrates writers and writing providing opportunities for emerging writers, readings, exhibitions and writing and poetry workshops for adults and teenagers.

The festival invites participants from all members of the community of all ages for writing competitions, workshops, readings and literary related events in a weekend of activity in the beautiful lakeside village of Dromineer. Dromineer has been described as a ‘boutique’ festival; small but high class, with an atmosphere that is serious but informal, professional but friendly, in an exquisite setting on the shores of Lough Derg.

Borrisoleigh Festival 2014

Borrisoleigh is the place to be for the first weekend in October as the Borrisoleigh Festival takes place from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th October. The festival is being officially opened on Friday evening in McDonagh Square with the re-inroduction of the mayoral candidates followed by live music by Outa Diesel.

Saturday has two walks organised by the local Bush and Briar Ramblers up the Devil’s Bit and on the newly opened Inch Loop Walk. There is also a Line Dancing workshop in the Marion Hall and a Food and Craft Fair in the Square. Live music in the Square starts at 7.30pm with the White Gypsy Band followed by the ever popular Silver Dollar and friends at 9pm.

Sunday the 5th starts off with the annual 40k charity cycle organised by the local cycling club with funds raised this year going to Downs Syndrome North Tipp Branch. The Family Fun Day in the park is bigger and better this year with a host of new fun activities added. Along with popular favourites from last year such as Bubble Soccer, Strongman Display by Irish Champion and local man Kevin Murray, Tug of War, Sheaf Tossing, BBQ and novelty games of skill, there is also an exhibition of Birds of Prey, Bouncy Castles, Sumo Wrestling, Rodeo Bull, Arts, Crafts and Music workshops for kids, a vintage tractor display, a climbing wall, face painting and more. Live music in the Square kicks off at 5pm with the Castle Trio. At 7pm the acclaimed Liam Ó Maonlaí (of Hothouse Flowers fame) will take the stage. At 9pm Ebony take over and the new Mayor/Mayoress of Borrisoleigh will be announced.

RuggedWood Perform in Phillys

Guinness Amplify is coming to Philly’s this Friday the 3rd of October. RuggedWood are a 5 piece contemporary styled band with a twist of folk/pop. Consisting of 5 vocalists, guitar, 5 string banjo, piano, violin, double bass and percussion. A very original styled band with aspirations of also getting there own music out there! They will be kicking off at 10pm.

Friday Night Music Session at The Kenyon

The Friday night Music Session takes place in The Piano Bar at The Kenyon on Friday, October 3rd from 10.30pm with special guests Ollie Grace and Pat Holland.

Nenagh Ormond Weekend Fixtures

Nenagh Ormond are away to Bective Rangers in Donnybrook on Saturday 4th October. Kick-off is at 3pm but it is definitely worth travelling up a couple of hours earlier as the Munster A v Leinster A interprovincial game kicks off at 1pm!

Nenagh Ormond Under 20s are at home to Bruff on Saturday 4th October at 2.30pm.

Nenagh Ormond Minis section will host their first blitz of the season in Lisatunny on Sunday 5th October at 10.00am. 

Nenagh Ormond Ladies begin their 2014-15 AIL campaign this Sunday, October 5th, with an away fixture against Fermoy.  Kick off is at 1pm.

Nenagh Ormond Seconds are at home to Richmond on Sunday 5th October at 2.30pm.

Nenagh Farmers Market

The Nenagh Farmers Market will take place on Saturday 4th October in Quintin’s Way from 10.00am to 3.00pm. An excellent selection of meats, baked produce, cheeses, sweets, fruit, vegetables and eggs will be available on the day.

Fashion Show & Coffee Morning in aid of North Tipp Hospice

The Annual Fashion Show & Coffee Morning in aid of the North Tipperary Hospice Movement takes place on Saturday, 4th October in The Fairways from 10.00am to 12 noon. Admission is free and donations are welcome on the day. Fabulous boutiques and designers will be showcasing the latest fashion trends. Doors open at 10am. Come and enjoy a fantastic morning and support your local Hospice.

Ann’s Hot Air Day for South Tipperary Hospice Movement

Ann’s Hot Air Day will take place from 2pm on Saturday, 4th of October at KPlan Centre, Kilsheelan. This exciting fundraiser has been organised by the Dempsey family in memory of Ann Dempsey, who sadly passed away from cancer last year. Ann’s husband John and their children are hosting a unique family day in aid of South Tipperary Hospice Movement. The Dempsey Family invite you and your family to join them and remember your lost loved ones along with them on the day. Attendees can write a private note to be enclosed inside a balloon and all balloons will be let off in unison which will make for a specular display of movement, colour and collective effervescence. Balloons can be purchased for €5 on the day or in advance at Ann’s Hot Air mycharity.ie page, Ann’s Hot Air Day Facebook page or @AnnsHotAir on Twitter, by phone at 052 6184343. A family fun day theme will be prevalent with bouncy castles, face painting, games and activities on site for the kids. There are superb prizes to be won on the day and Support Groups from all over the county will be in attendance to engage with the crowd whilst promoting upcoming events. Later that evening entertainment will follow with a shave or dye event and music at Robinson’s Pub in Kilsheelan village.

Lyngo Theatre Presents Jack and the Beanstalk

It’s a show for the over 3’s (and their giants) with something for everyone – enormous shoes, tiny houses, showers of silver and gold and a big, leafy explosion!

Super Sunday BBQ at Tipperary Races

Tipperary Races will host its annual showcase Super Sunday BBQ and family day on Sunday 5th October. This fixture includes the best flat and jump races of the year and with a fantastic BBQ package on offer, this is a day on the racing calendar not to be missed.
