The Spleodar Arts Festival is Nearly Here!

Nenagh town comes alive during Hallowe’en week with the fun and vibrant Spleodar Arts Festival for Children. This year, the festival has an eclectic modern mix so watch out for Robots, Puppets, Teddy bears and Mad Scientists amongst others.

The events starts on the bank holiday Monday 27th of October, with two beautiful and classic puppet shows from the well-known stories, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ in Nenagh Arts Centre performed by Banyan Theatre Company.

Later in the week, scientific boffins Colmac Robotics present three Learn Robotics Workshops; there are workshops with textile and mixed media artist Lynn Kenny; Olive Gilgannon will be leading an Arty Nails workshops. Dee Dempsey from Urban Kicks, kicks Wednesday 29th in to action with her with ‘Frozen and Lego themed Dance Workshops’. On Banba Square, we will have the Music Generation double decker bus to run three musical storytelling adventure workshops for all the inspiring musicians and songwriters. With no expense spared, with no concern for their safety, The Fanzini’ Brothers laugh in the face of danger with this ‘Canonball Circus’. Be sure not to miss this show in Nenagh Arts Centre!

Thursday 30th starts with a drop in through-out-the-day with ‘Lego builds Nenagh Castle’ in Nenagh Arts Centre. Can YOU replicate Nenagh Castle out of Lego?  Parents stand aside and make space for the younger hipsters amongst us! Also in Nenagh Arts Centre, we have ‘Spun: Storytelling Puppetry and Play’. Come and listen to an adventure and a sing along that involves sailing the seas, flying through the sky with flying giraffes and wise old turtles! Then make your own rod puppet to take home! On Thursday evening in Nenagh Arts Centre, our film is the classic ‘The Princess Bride’. A fairytale adventure about a beautiful princess and the gallant hero who rescues her from an evil villain! This is not to be missed on the big screen!

To finish off our week on Friday 31st (Hallowe’en night), we have our the annual Spleodar fireworks display which, takes place in Eire Og GAA Park. The night sky will be lit up with sparkling shards of colour. Not to mention some loud bangs and some surprises!  This year as part of the nights entertainment, Spleodar present Shawbrook Youth Dance Touring Company.

Our exhibition, for this years’ Festival is ‘Under the Rainbow’. Come and see the Tipperary bears in Nenagh Arts Centre from the 27th October to 15th November. Tipperary craft artist Edel Grace gives us a glimpse inside the world of her creations. The Teddy Bears will be available to buy for the kids or maybe those a little older….
