Reduction in Waiting Lists in Nenagh General Hospital

There has been a significant reduction in the outpatient and inpatient waiting lists in Nenagh General Hospital according to recent reports.

The outpatient list in Nenagh has reduced by 50% between March and December of 2013. Meanwhile, the number of people on the inpatient waiting list has dropped from 944 in 2011 to 387 at the end of 2013 which is a 40% decrease. There has also been a 100% reduction in the number of inpatients waiting eight months or more.

Noel Coonan TD has welcomed this news saying "There have been substantial improvements in waiting lists and, for the first time, an outpatient waiting list was compiled in March 2013 so we can better monitor the situation. Matters are improving and while there is still work to be done to further reduce waiting lists; we are moving in the right direction".

Deputy Coonan explained how the reduction in waiting lists is having an impact all over the country "This progress in waiting times is being replicated right across the country. In 2011 over 100,000 patients were waiting over a year for an outpatient appointment throughout the country. Thousands of these people had been waiting over four years. This waiting list has been reduced by 95% to 4,600 patients".
