Young Irish Director Donal Foreman deservedly won the Dublin Film Festival’s CineTALENT award with his debut feature ‘Out of Here’ last spring and now his brilliant, zeitgeisty vision of Dublin’s youth gets a well-deserved screening at the Town Hall Cinema in Nenagh Arts Centre.
College dropout Ciaran (Fionn Walton) returns from Asia and, over the course of a week, reintroduces himself to friends, family, and the Dublin city he left behind. Uncomfortable living at home with his parents, new flame Melissa (Aoife Duffin) offers excitement, but his true hope is to reconnect with ex-girlfriend Jess (Annabelle Rickerby).
Already an experienced shorts filmmaker, Foreman’s talent is unmistakable here and fulfils the early promise of those well-regarded short films. With a restrained style, utilising Dublin’s familiar and unfamiliar landmarks, and a fresh portrayal of Irish masculinity he patiently builds a rare and exceptionally true-to-life portrait of what it is to be young, educated and aimless in Ireland today.
The film screens at 8 p.m. on this Thursday the 22nd January. Admission is €8.
