Oscar-winner ‘12 Years a Slave’ Screens at the Arts Centre

Closing its film season for 2014, Nenagh Arts Centre is screening the Academy Award winning ’12 years A Slave’ on this Thursday the 11th of December.

Directed by Steve MacQueen, the films details the struggles of a free black man in the years before the American Civil War. Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), from upstate New York, is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the South. Subjected to the cruelty of one malevolent owner (Michael Fassbender), he also finds unexpected kindness from another, as he struggles continually to survive and maintain some of his dignity. Then in the 12th year of the disheartening ordeal, a chance meeting with an abolitionist from Canada changes Solomon's life forever.

Often brutal, but truly life –affirming this film is a must see and the Arts Centre showing offers the opportunity to witness its power again on the big screen.

Admission for the film is €8. Tickets can be booked in advance from Nenagh Arts Centre on 067 34400, online at www.nenagharts.com or purchased at the door on screening night at 8 p.m. on Thursday 11th of December. The film screening is supported by Global Solutions.
