Thurles Greyhound Stadium was the venue for a Premier League tie between Thurles Town and Sallypark last Sunday morning with the home side collecting maximum points on a 3-1 score line. Robbie Jordan set Thurles Town on their way with a fine finish in the ninth minute. The home side kept the pressure on and made it two-nil when Robbie Jordan netted his second. Sallypark tried hard in the second half, but Thurles Town stretched their lead to three on 68 minutes when Tom Brophy scored a fine individual goal. Sallypark pulled a goal back through Niall McCormack ten minutes from time however it was a case of too little too late.
Nenagh AFC were convincing 7-1 winners over Borrisokane at Islandbawn last Sunday. The home side held a 3-1 lead at the half time thanks to double hit from Brian Quinn and a well-taken goal from Michael Hogan while John Doyle replied for Borrisokane. It was one-way traffic in the second half as Nenagh tacked on four without reply. Michael Hogan added his second with Arthur Mitchell also bagging a brace. Trevor Morrissey made up the tally for the winners.
Moneygall A secured a comprehensive 5-2 victory over Nenagh AFC B last Sunday in Brickfields. The away side took the lead after ten minutes when Brian Delaney combined with Patsy Greene to set up Damien O’Brien who volleyed home from twelve yards. A Tommy Martin brace gave the home side a 2-1 advantage at the break. Moneygall made a blistering start to the second half and were back level when Colm O’Brien’s cross was headed home brilliantly by Damien O’Brien. It was 3-2 Moneygall when Billy McCormack finished from a Colm O’Brien delivery. Moneygall kept the pressure on and increased their tally when Jody Troy latched on to Dwayne Collison’s long kick-out to fire home from the edge of the eighteen-yard box. The home side had no answer to a Moneygall side which took up a 5-2 lead when Patsy Greene’s inch-perfect pass saw Brian Delaney round the Nenagh custodian before calming slotting between the posts to cap off a fine performance from the visiting side.
Ardcroney were three-nil victors over Thurles Celtic at the Loughtagalla venue last Sunday. The opening fifteen minutes were evenly contested before Ardcroney broke the deadlock with a long-range effort from Alan Darcy. The visitors kept the pressure on and enjoyed a three-nil lead at the break thanks to further strikes from Dan Reddan and Philip Blackwell. Thurles Celtic enjoyed long spells of dominance in the second half, but failed to breakdown a resilient Ardcroney rearguard.
Puckane’s winning ways continued with a narrow 2-1 win over Ballymackey A last Sunday in Puckane. Ballymackey opened the scoring with a well-worked goal from Robbie Ryan. However Puckane got back level when John Hogan scored five minutes before the break. A well-contested second half saw John Hayes scoring what proved to be the winner for Puckane on the 65-minute mark.
Nenagh AFC Youths were the visitors to Newhill Park for a FAI Youths Cup against Two-Mile-Borris with the Nenagh side claiming a 5-1 win over the TSDL side. The Brickfield’s outfit were fast out of the traps and took the lead in the third minute when Danny Butler scored from a Dylan Walsh assist. Nenagh AFC made it two-nil three minutes later when Danny Butler latched on to Luke Kennedy’s through ball to finish with aplomb. The home side pulled a goal back on the fifteen-minute mark when Stephen Joy finished between the posts following a defensive error. Nenagh got back on top and took a 4-1 lead to the break after an in-form Danny Butler pounced for two more goals. A man of the match performance saw Danny Butler net his fifth of day early in the second half to leave no way back for Two-Mile-Borris on this occasion.
