Nenagh Walking Club Notes - 06/01/2014

Despite the wet and windy conditions over the Christmas & New Year, members of the club were provided with a packed and varied programme of events as following:

On Thursday 26th December (St Stephen's Day). Willie Keane led a group up the Silvermines Ridge (end-to-end). Despite wintery weather conditions and high winds members enjoyed this 3.5 hour treck over the ridge.

On Sat 28th December a group of 25 people led by Aidan Dillon embarked on a medium level walk from Garrykennedy village to Castlelough woods. This was a very pleasant walk with good weather conditions.

On Sunday 29th December Mary Mackey led a walk along the Riverbank and Ballyartella Road - this level walk provided an opportunity to members to enjoy a leisurely walk.

On New Year's Day Mary Clohessy led a group which undertook a more strenuous hike of approx 3.5 hours duration in the Arra Mountains which took in both Tountinna and the Millennium Cross.

The packed Programme of events will continue for 2014 to give Members an opportunity to build up their fitness level whilst at the same time enjoy comradeship with fellow Club Members.

We will have our Annual John Daffy Memorial Walk on Sunday 12th January. This is the Clubs only Annual Charity Fundraiser and this years nominated charity is Nenagh Horse Riding for the Disabled. This walk, led by Kieran Maguire, will start at Nenagh town Centre to Dublin Road, on riverbank to Clarina Bridge and back to town by road.  This is a level walk and will suit all members. Refreshments and presentation of proceeds in Hi-B following walk.  As this is our only Charity Fundraiser we would urge as many members as possible to support this worthy cause.

All above walks depart from Kenyon Street Car Park at 11.00am.

Our Tuesday evening walks from Tesco's Car Park at 7.30 pm are proving to be very popular with the Membership - these will continue every Tuesday until Spring when we go out into the Country on different walks every week.

The Committee would like to wish all Members a Happy New Year.
