Nenagh Tidy Towns Committee Welcome New Members

Nenagh Tidy Towns Committee will hold its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 28th January at 7.00 p.m. in the Nenagh Municipal District Office, Civic Offices, Limerick Rd, Nenagh.  Come along and find out how you can help make Nenagh a better place for everyone.  The Committee would welcome new members, new ideas and new volunteers so that we can have our very own “Transformation” of the Town of Nenagh and its approaches.  In particular the Committee wants to encourage community involvement and would encourage as many as possible to attend and voice their opinions.  All residents groups are being encouraged to send a representative to the AGM.

An update will be given on the night on work carried out to date and future plans and initiatives.  There will be an opportunity for those in attendance to provide feedback and suggestions.

Why get involved?

For yourself:

  • Volunteering can be very fulfilling and give a ‘feel good’ factor – the satisfaction of making a contribution
  • It can be great craic and give you the opportunity to meet people and make new friendships
  • You will get experience of team-working, planning and organising as well as practical work which will add to your own confidence and skills and will be a positive on your CV if you are seeking employment
  • You may discover hidden talents

For the community:

  • You will be helping to make Nenagh a better and more attractive place in which to live, work and visit – this will benefit morale, business, communities and the environment
  • We want to continue improving Nenagh’s performance in the Tidy Towns Competition and to showcase all that is good in the town
  • The added benefit of what can be achieved when people work together and when the efforts of different groups are united
  • Ensuring the sustainability of Tidy Towns in Nenagh and building for the future
  • New ideas and initiatives

Tidy Towns is about much more than litter control and planting.  The National Competition is judged under eight categories which are:

        (a) Community Involvement & Planning
        (b) Built Environment & Streetscape
        (c) Landscape and Open Spaces
        (d) Wildlife, Habitats and Natural Amenities
        (e) Tidiness and Litter Control
        (f) Sustainable Waste & Resource Management
        (g) Residential Streets & Housing Areas
        (h) Approach Roads, Streets and Lanes

In 2015 Nenagh will also host Fleadh na Mumhan which will result in a huge number of visitors to the town and area.  We want to show our pride in our town and ensure it is looking at its best.

All are welcome, young and old and all those in between – whether you have plenty of time on your hands or only a few hours occasionally you can make a positive contribution and every offer of help will be appreciated.

If you cannot attend on the night but would like to make your views known please contact Lorraine Treacy at 0761 06 6632.

Refreshments will be provided on the night.
