Nenagh Ormond Notes

Age Grade Table Quiz

Our Age Grade Section will be holding their annual fundraising Table Quiz at 9pm sharp this Friday, December 4th, at the clubhouse in Lisatunny.

NORFC Age Grade Section covers all teams from Under 7s up to Under 18s and our coaches, team managers and Age Grade Committee all do a fantastic job in developing our future stars.

Tables of 4 will battle it out to win on the night.  This is always an enjoyable event with plenty of questions and craic so grab a few friends and come on out for a great night’s entertainment and to support our young players.

Under 14 League Semi-Final

This Sunday morning Nenagh Ormond Under 14s play Fethard at home in the East Munster Under 14 League Semi-Final.  The Under 14 players and coaches have put in huge work to get this far in the League and they will be hoping that it will pay off on Sunday with a win that will put them through to the final.
All support would be greatly appreciated.  Please see our Facebook page for any updates to fixtures.

Under 13s v Ennis

Nenagh Ormond Under 13s set sail for Ennis on Saturday morning by bus to play our re-fixed league game. We also had our second team on board to play Ennis second team in a friendly.  With a yellow alert weather warning in operation we knew a tough day lay ahead.

Our league team was first in action against what turned out to be the best and most skilful team we have met at this age grade. Ennis had a skill set that a team many years older could be proud of and, while we gave as good as we got up front, we were seriously stretched every time they moved the ball out the backs. We were treated to a good dose of the weather alert early in the first half and, with our players struggling with the wet and cold, Ennis scored four tries through brilliant back play in this half. We replied with a great breakaway try scored by James Finn running from inside his own 22 to score under the posts.

The second half wasn't any better for Nenagh and with a lot of players having to leave the field with knocks and being replaced by subs who were frozen it was a case of damage limitation.  The final score was 40-7.  Nobody dropped their heads and this team will have better days.

We then put out 15 different starters for a friendly and this game was never going to be about the score but about giving many new players to the sport some match time. The lads enjoyed the experience and with dedication to training some of these lads will be pushing for places on the league team soon.

Ennis supplied all our players and supporters with hospitality to get us ready for our trip to Thomond Park to see Munster take on Connacht. While the result didn't go in our favour here either it was a great day for 37 young fellas to spend some time together and help them to bond. This will stand to them as the season progresses. We finished off the day with a call to Applegreen in Birdhill for the last supper. The lads behaviour on a near 12 hour day was exemplary and a credit to themselves, their families and our club. Well done lads. We would like to thank the people who helped out in making this day happen for giving us the chance to have a day together.

Under 12s

Nenagh played in a wet and windy Lisatunny last Sunday against Scarriff. The game was relegated to the area behind the stand due to the visit of Lansdowne and conditions were very tricky underfoot as the large amount of rain that fell overnight. Nenagh had an excellent turnout of 17 brave players in the conditions and played 11 a side moving to 12 a side to give as many players a game to keep them warm. This means a lot of rolling substitutions to give everyone some game time but this leads to disruption of the team and they shopped some tries in the first part of the game played over three quarters.

There was some excellent tackling from Sam O’Brien and Joe Shanahan and some good running from Jack O’Flaherty and Charlie Cavanagh. The referee allowed contested scrums that the Nenagh boys were not used to and this made things difficult as due to the weather, as there were quite a few scums in the game. Charlie Cavanagh scored an excellent try and it was good to see the returning Joseph Coffey and some excellent play from Ted Evens during the game. Training is moving to Ballymackey from next Sunday, time will be advised by text during the week.

Team: Joseph Shanahan, Joseph Gleeson, Joseph Coffey, Frank Manley, Eoin Ward, Joe Kyne, DarraghKyne, Paddy Griffen, Jack O’Flaherty, Ted Evens, MateiHalmagne, Jamie Coyne, Sean Moylan, Conor Tierney, Leo, Sam O’Brien, Charlie Cavanagh.

Under 11s

Last Sunday we welcomed Lansdowne RFC to a wild and windswept Lisatunny.  Numbers wise we were very even with both teams fielding 23 players.  We divided into two teams and played two games of approximately 15 minutes aside.

Both teams were relatively evenly matched, Lansdowne had a little more out wide then us but up the middle we more than matched them.  This was evidenced by a superb try, finished by the peerless Danny Quinn, where Nenagh mauled over the try line from deep inside their own half.  It was a classic Munster try and brought the biggest cheer of the day from our supporters - the loudest cheer of all coming from coach (and prop forward) Fergal Brislane, as it was a real forwards try!

In tough and testing conditions our young players gave their all and were rewarded with some great tries.  Tadgh Gleeson in particular was in excellent form throughout both games and his hard work and tenacity was rewarded with a fine try.

We thank Lansdowne for two very enjoyable, sporting and entertaining games of rugby.  We send our best wishes to our players who picked up knocks. Our thanks as usual to our loyal parents, and also to all those who brought food and helped out on the day.  Also thanks to Lorcan and the team for organising such a well-run and enjoyable blitz.

Training will resume next week in Ballymackey - details to follow by text.

Under 9s

Despite the inclement weather, Nenagh Ormond under 9's fielded two teams against our visitors, Lansdowne on Sunday.  The weather has played havoc with our training and matches recently so this was our first outing in a few weeks.

Well done to all who played and to all the parents who braved the elements to come out and cheer on the lads. We were treated to some cracking games and some great running rugby.  Best for Nenagh on the day were Jack Kenneally, Joe O'Dwyer, Fionn Higgins and Mark Manley.

Please note that training moves to the All-weather facility in Ballymackey from next week.

Under 8s

NORFC Under 8's hosted Landsdowne at home on a windy and wet Sunday morning last at Lisatunny.  Twenty resilient players from Landsdowne travelled from Dublin leaving at an early hour.  Also a twenty strong Nenagh team participated  to fly the home flag.  Two games were played simultaneously with ten aside of full contact rugby.

Nenagh showed great determination against very strong opposition.  There were excellent displays of rucking & mauling on both sides.  There were some very well scored tries from both sides and superb defence play with a number of turn overs and sheer determination being shown from both sides.

Landsdowne proved to be tough opposition but Nenagh showed that they are well capable.  The progress made in a short period of time from this really promising Under 8 side is immense.  We will be moving to Ballymackey All Weather pitch for training next Sunday and training will commence at 10.30am sharp.
