Nenagh Ormond RFC - Club Notes 29-04-2014

Kilfeacle 5-0 Under 14’s

The Nenagh lads on Sunday last played their final and biggest game of the season when they travelled to Fethard to play Kilfeacle in the East Munster Cup Final. There was a great air of excitement among the squad as the gathered in Lisatunny for the journey. The match began with mistakes aplenty from both sides but Nenagh finally settled to the task and began to apply some good pressure on their opponents’ line. Nenagh had some very good surges and drives from Alex Hayes and Evan Murphy and Michael Kennedy went close to scoring. But try as they might the Nenagh lads just couldn’t seem to get over the line and despite dominating for most of the half, Nenagh went to the break without a score.

The second half began with Nenagh again making inroads into the Kilfeacle half but they were getting no reward on the score board and had some refereeing decisions go against them also. The Kilfeacle had made some great breaks but were being held at bay with good tackles from Darragh Flannery and Eddie O’Dwyer and a good tackle on the line from Evan Murphy.

But eventually the pressure told when Kilfeacle made some good drives from a quick short penalty and they forced their way over for a hard earned score. The missed conversion still gave Nenagh hope and they never gave up and kept believing that they could get that vital score. Alas they eventually just ran out of time and when the young referee blew the full time whistle there was disappointment from the players and squad members.

It just wasn't to be on this day and all the Nenagh supporters and coaches were immensely proud of this young team and what they have achieved in their rugby lives so far.

A word of thanks to all the parents who helped out with various tasks during the season and thanks to the coaches Andrew Kelly, Fergal Healy and John Delaney for their efforts and commitment during the season. Also thanks to Pat Fitzpatrick for his help during the year. Hopefully everyone will now have an enjoyable summer and will come back refreshed and ready for the start of a new season.
