Senior XV Update

Nenagh Ormond Senior XV began their UBL Division 2A campaign with an away trip to Dungannon last Saturday and came away with four points.  Tries came from Peter O’Connor and Ruaidhri O’Brien, both converted by Dan Fogarty who also slotted a penalty.  The final score was Dungannon 8-17 Nenagh Ormond.

This was a fantastic start to the new season for Nenagh in what was a tough first fixture.  This Friday night sees them at home to Thomond who were also promoted at the end of last season.  The match between these two teams was a very close affair last year and Thomond have also started well with a five point haul against Queens last Saturday so this will be a challenge but one that the Nenagh lads will certainly look forward to.

Friday night lights always ensures a great atmosphere so be sure to come out to support the lads this weekend!

Under 14s 29-10 UL Bohemian

On Sunday in Lisatunny Nenagh hosted UL Bohs in a pre-season friendly match. From the outset the Nenagh starting pack of Danny Connor, Patrick Whelan, Luke Connolly, Ruan O’Hanluain, Oisín Webb, Dylin Knight, Kian O’Kelly and Jack O’Keeffe looked really up for it and gave UL Bohs no chance to settle into the match. Nenagh dominated the early encounters and with some great rucking and mauling by the Nenagh forwards this allowed rampaging second row Oisín Webb to cross for Nenagh’s first try, which was duly converted by full back Oisín Larkin. With the Nenagh pack dominant in the scrums and winning their fair share of lineout ball this allowed the Nenagh back line of James Ferris, Owen Farrell, Jack Moran, Matthew Hodgins, Conor McMahon, Peter Rainsford and Oisín Larkin to put a number of great passing movements together and nearly crossed the UL Bohs line on a number of occasions. It was following one of these good passing movements that winger Peter Rainsford got in got Nenagh’s second try which was again converted by Oisín Larkin. Just before the interval and following a great passage of play between forwards and backs centre Matthew Hodgins broke clear and scored Nenagh’s third try. This gave Nenagh a commanding 19 – 0 lead at the interval.

Nenagh had the luxury of having a large squad of players available to them on the day and after the interval they introduced new forwards in Eoghan Slevin, Conor Malone, Lorcan Tuohy and Oisín McMahon and in the backs Patrick Finn, Matthew McGee, Aaron Reilly and Manus Heenan were all introduced. UL Bohs tried to get back in the game and ran at Nenagh but the Nenagh players tackled like their lives depended on it however after constant UL Bohs pressure they finally managed to cross the Nenagh line. From the restart Nenagh once again attacked the UL Bohs line and the Nenagh pack who were still winning a large amount of ball and were putting great pressure on the UL Bohs pack which allowed Dylin Knight to get in for Nenagh’s fourth try. UL Bohs managed to score another try against the run of play but Nenagh did not let up and with some great movements between forwards and backs combining well, this let left wing Conor McMahon get in for Nenagh’s fifth try on the day. Nenagh ran out decisive winners on the day, 29 – 10.

Sincere thanks to all the parents who brought beautiful food and helped out in the kitchen on the day. It was particularly appreciated by some Dutch visitors who had heard that Joy Ferris was serving her famous hot dogs!
