Nenagh Ormond RFC - Club Notes 18-03-2014

Senior XV

Nenagh Ormond’s thrilling 19-17 victory over Greystones in Lisatunny last Saturday has extended their lead at the top of the Division 2B league table to 9 points over their closest rivals Skerries, Thomond and Greystones themselves, who are all equal on points.

This Saturday (March 22nd), the lads play their last home game of this year’s AIL campaign against Suttonians.  The home support was outstanding last Saturday and we hope that you can all make it again to shout for the team this weekend.  Kick off at 2.30pm.

Juvenile teams in action

The Nenagh Under 14’s were in cup action last Sunday away to Fethard in what proved to be a very evenly contested game.  Evan Murphy got in for an early try after just five minutes.  This was followed by Fethard crossing the line a few minutes later.  Nenagh got in front again just before halftime when Evan Murphy got over for his second try to give Nenagh a 10 points to 5 lead at the break.

The contest was level again when the Fethard winger raced clear to score his team’s second try after some very good phases of rugby from both sides.  Conor o Brien looked to have won the game for Nenagh when he made a great break in the centre and raced clear to touch down with time almost up.  But Fethard got one last chance and managed to get over for a very late try to level the contest and then the result hinged on the conversion which their kicker scored from the touchline at the second attempt to win a very close contest for the home team by 17 points to 15.

Nenagh were disappointed to lose out in the end but played some very good rugby throughout and are still very much involved in this Cup which is run on a mini league basis.

Our Under 16’s also began their Cup campaign last Sunday with a comprehensive victory over Clanwilliam.

Both teams continue their campaigns in the coming weeks.  Fixture details will be available at www.nenaghormondrfc.com and on Facebook.

Juvenile Flag Day

Nenagh Ormond Juvenile Club’s recent flag day was well supported and the Juvenile Club would like to sincerely thank everyone who gave their time to collect on the day.
