Nenagh Ormond RFC Dinner Dance

On Friday night last, Nenagh Ormond celebrated the end of a very exciting season for the club in the Great National Abbey Court Hotel.  The club has had an unprecedented level of success this season at all levels.  The players at juvenile and mini level enjoyed good results including our Under 13s topping their league and our Under 14s reaching the final of the Cup.  The Under 20s achieved great results in their league and won the O’Connor Cup.  Nenagh Ormond Ladies mirrored this success with an unbeaten run in Division 2 South to reach the semi-final of the All-Ireland League for the second time since gaining promotion to this division.

Of course, the highlight of the season was our Senior team’s unbeaten record in Division 2B which saw them gain promotion to Division 2A.  The team also retained the Cyril Fitzgerald Plate.  The work put in over the past few years by this group of players, coaches and management has been immense and the reward this season is well-deserved.  Coach Trevor Hogan was thanked last Friday night for the enormous contribution he has made to the team over the past three years.  He will be greatly missed next season and we wish him all the best for the future.

The club’s achievements have been recognised in the wider rugby community also with player/coach Derek Corcoran named Division 2B Player of the Year at the recent Ulster Bank League Awards and the club won Senior Club of the Year at last Thursday’s Munster Rugby Awards.

Last Friday night was an opportunity for everyone involved in the club to celebrate this success and we would like to thank everyone who attended: players and their families, coaches and management, sponsors, members, parents and supporters.  Thank you also to the management and staff of the Great National Abbey Court Hotel and to the band, Ebony, and DJ Mickey Mac who provided entertainment on the night.

Thanks as well must go to Ireland coach Joe Schmidt who took time out of his busy schedule to join us for the night.  He entertained everyone with some great stories and presented the Senior team with their Division 2B winners medals.  Not only that, he also came out to train the Under 14s & 15s on a very wet and miserable Saturday morning and spoke to some of our coaches afterwards.

Although there is a break from playing now for the summer, preparations are already underway for next season and we hope that the fantastic support we got from the community this year will continue into the 2014/15 season.
