NORFC Table Quiz

Nenagh Ormond RFC’s annual Table Quiz takes place in the Dapp Inn this Friday, February 13th at 9pm.  Tables of 4, €40 per table.  Raffle and spot prizes on the night.  We hope you will come along for some questions & craic to support the club.

Under 14’s 17-14 Cistercian College Roscrea

On Saturday morning Nenagh travelled the short distance to take on Cistercian College Roscrea in a friendly. Roscrea had a very large pack of forwards and from the outset it was clear that they were going to use their forward power to take on Nenagh. The Nenagh forwards held their own and the starting Nenagh back row of Dylan Knight, Oisín McMahon and Kian O’Kelly put in a huge amount of tackles to keep Roscrea from crossing the Nenagh line. However Roscrea kept powering forward and midway through the first half they scored a try under the posts which was duly converted. Nenagh then began to get into the game and mounted some good attacking plays of their own and the back line led by Patrick Finn were unlucky not to score on at least one occasion in the opening half. Just before half time Nenagh were once again under pressure in their own twenty two when a clearance kick was blocked down and from the resulting ruck Roscrea got in for their second try near the posts which again was converted. This left the score at half time 14 – 0.

Nenagh were going to have to work very hard in the second half if they were going to pull this one out of the fire and from the restart the Nenagh pack tore into the Roscrea forwards and started to win some clean ball for the Nenagh back line. It was after a number of great drives by the Nenagh forwards with props Luke Connolly and Danny O’Connor to the fore that brought Nenagh into the Roscrea twenty two and out half Jack Moran took it on himself and ran a beautiful line to cut inside the Roscrea defence and score under the post. The try was converted and Nenagh were now back in the game. From the restart the Nenagh pack once again claimed the ball and drove back into the Roscrea twenty two. The Nenagh forwards drove the ball to somewhere between the Roscrea ten metre line and twenty two and when the ball was passed out centre Matthew Hodgins took the ball at a great angle and cut back inside the Roscrea defence to score a well-deserved try. The try was unconverted which meant that Nenagh needed to score again if they were to secure victory. For the last ten minutes of the game Nenagh did most of the attacking play and were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions but on one of these occasions number eight Jack O’Keeffe picked the ball up from a ruck and drove over the Roscrea line to give Nenagh a 17 – 14 lead which they held on to until the final whistle.

Thanks must go to our own Pat Fitzpatrick who helps with the coaching in Roscrea College and who organised this match for Nenagh. Also sincere thanks to Roscrea College who gave all players, parents and supporters a lovely dinner in the college after the match. We are back in cup action next weekend with a home fixture against Waterpark and it is therefore vital that all players attend training this Wednesday in Tyone.

Under 12’s

Nenagh Ormond Under 12’s travelled to UL Bohemians on Sunday morning for a feast of rugby.  The other visiting club was Ballina/Killaloe.  All three clubs had two teams each so there was no hanging about and each team played three matches.  To say we had tired players at the end would be an understatement.

Both Nenagh teams did the club proud and scored some fine tries as well as showing some great never-say-die spirit in defence.  A highlight of both teams was the aggressive tackling with Paul Seymour in particular bringing off a number of bone crunching tackles for the Nenagh Barbarians and Sean Fitzgerald doing equally as well for the Nenagh Wolfhounds.

Barbarians lined out as follows: Jack Gleeson, George O’Leary, Patrick Fogarty, Darragh Tucker, Tom Kennedy, Tommy Ryan, Paul Seymour, James Finn, Andrew Ferris, Josh Keller, Liam Cooney.
Nenagh Wolfhounds: Daniel Manning, Daire Slevin, Cian White, Shaun Hilmi, John Brislane, Sean Fitzgerald, Sonny Dower, Peter Collins, DJ McGrath, Evan Rainsford.
