Nenagh Ormond RFC Club Notes - 07/04/2015

UBL Division 2A
Final match of the season for our Senior XV!

Nenagh Ormond Senior XV take on Rainey Old Boys in their final match of the All Ireland League for the current season this Saturday, April 11th.  This is a must win match as the restructuring of the leagues planned for next season means that Nenagh must finish in the top ten in order to remain in Division 2A.

Kick off is at 2.30pm in Lisatunny.

Munster Junior Plate
Nenagh Seconds 15-10 Abbeyfeale

Nenagh Ormond Seconds faced a tough Abbeyfeale side in Lisatunny last Sunday in the quarter final of the Munster Junior Plate.  Abbeyfeale started strongly and put a lot of pressure on Nenagh in the first ten minutes, missing one penalty attempt and creating a try-scoring chance only to knock on just metres from the line before finally getting on the scoreboard with their second attempt at goal.  Nenagh then came into the game a bit more and had a good spell of possession but could not penetrate the Abbeyfeale defence.

Abbeyfeale were dominant at scrum time and when they got into the Nenagh 22 again they won a penalty on the five metre line and opted for the scrum.  Nenagh conceded a number of penalties and the referee awarded a penalty try.  Abbeyfeale kicked the easy conversion and Nenagh found themselves trailing by ten points at half time.

Nenagh finally got on the scoreboard just minutes into the second half when they won a penalty within kicking distance and Michael Walsh slotted it.  Abbeyfeale did seem to tire more and Nenagh began to run the ball more effectively and spend more time in the Abbeyfeale half.  When they got into the Abbeyfeale 22, Nenagh retained possession well and Darragh Hassey, now playing at scrum half, showed quick thinking when he spotted a gap at the side of the ruck and went over for Nenagh’s first try.  Michael Walsh added the extras to even things up at 10-all.

When Abbeyfeale won a penalty on their own 22, it seemed they would relieve this pressure but Peter O’Leary showed great awareness to tap the ball back into play when still inside the touchline and Nenagh went on the attack, running the ball back through Willie Coffey.  Coffey was tackled as he stormed down the right touchline and the Nenagh support was there in force, allowing quick ball for Michael Walsh who gave a long pass out to Shane O’Callaghan.  O’Callaghan straightened and passed to Peter O’Leary who jinked back inside before passing the ball out to winger Ger O’Gorman.  O’Gorman beat the covering defence to score in the corner and seal the 15-10 win for Nenagh.

Nenagh Seconds are now in the semi-final of the Munster Junior Plate against Skibbereen this Sunday, April 12th at 2.30pm.  Stay up to date with fixtures and any changes on our Facebook page, twitter and website.
