Senior XV Update

Nenagh Ormond Senior XV continued their unbeaten AIL run last Saturday when they beat Armagh 20-18 in Lisatunny.  Armagh came out all guns blazing, scoring two tries in the first quarter to rack up a 12 point lead.  But Nenagh dug in and gradually worked their way back into the game with a try from a lineout maul scored by Lemeki Vaipulu.  Dan Fogarty’s conversion and a subsequent penalty left the lads trailing 10-15 at the break.

Fogarty then kicked the lads to within 2 points and they seemed to be getting on top but Armagh’s kicker was flawless with a long range penalty to extend their lead to 5 points again.  With Nenagh down to 14 men, it seemed an impossible task but the Nenagh lads weren’t about to give up and they worked hard to regain territory.  An outstanding show of pace from Ruaidhri O’Brien saw him go around the defense to touch down, thereby ensuring a draw at least.  Dan Fogarty stepped up to take the difficult conversion and, despite slipping, his kick sealed another great victory for Nenagh.

Next up for our Senior XV are second placed Greystones at home on Saturday week, March 15th.  Greystones are just six points behind Nenagh so both teams will be up for the challenge!

Under 13’s 24-7 Clanwilliam

On Sunday in Lisatunny Nenagh took on Clanwilliam in a league match.  From the outset the Nenagh starting pack of Eoghan Slevin, Patrick Whelan, Luke Connolly, Oisin Webb, Daragh Butler, Jack O’Keeffe, Cian O’Farrell and Dylin Knight looked really up for it and gave Clanwilliam no chance to settle into the match.  Nenagh dominated the early encounters and with some great rucking and mauling by the Nenagh forwards this allowed the back line of James Ferris, Owen Farrell, Roan Harte-Murphy, Matthew Hodgins, Kevin Harding, Oisin Larkin and Conor McMahon to put a number of great passing movements together and nearly cross the Clanwilliam line on a number of occasions.

It was fifteen minutes into the match before Nenagh finally made a breakthrough when Peter Rainsford charged down a kick on the Clanwilliam line and touched down for a well-deserved try which Oisin Larkin converted.  Clanwilliam then tried to get back in the game and ran at Nenagh but the Nenagh players tackled like their lives depended on it and did not allow Clanwilliam to cross their line.  At half time Nenagh lead 7-0.

After half time Nenagh brought on some fresh players including Patrick Finn, Manus Heenan, Oisin McMahon, Lorcan Tuohy, Conor Malone and Kian O’Kelly.  This seemed to give Nenagh some new impetus and they continued to attack the Clanwilliam line.  However, totally against the run of play, Clanwilliam scored a breakaway try which they converted to bring the score to 7-7.  From the restart Nenagh once again attacked the Clanwilliam line and the Nenagh pack, who at this stage were totally dominating the Clanwilliam forwards, nearly crossed the line on a number of occasions.

It was after a number of fine Nenagh drives that Kian O’Kelly finally crossed the Clanwilliam line to give Nenagh a well-deserved lead.  Nenagh were now in total control and with some great movements with forwards and backs combining, Patrick Finn on two occasions in the space of five minutes was just held up short of the Clanwilliam line and each time he threw a beautifully timed pop pass to Oisin Larkin who scored two great tries, one of which was converted by Manus Heenan to give Nenagh a well-deserved 24-7 win.

We have another league match against Kilfeakle next weekend and we therefore need all our players to attend the training session this Wednesday at 6.30 in Tyone.

Sincere thanks again to all the parents who brought beautiful sandwiches and cakes and to all the ladies who helped out in the kitchen on the day.
