Juvenile & Mini Table Quiz

Music, food and spot prizes on the night.  €40 per table of four.  Kick off @ 9pm!

Senior XV 12-19 Old Crescent

Nenagh Ormond Senior XV took on Old Crescent at home last Friday night in the Cyril Fitzgerald Plate, which Nenagh have won for the past two years.  However, it was not to be three in a row for the Nenagh lads as Old Crescent’s dominance in the scrum and their effective maul won them the game and put them into the next round.

With two important league games in the next three weeks, Nenagh rested some of their usual starters but still fielded a fairly strong team for the fixture.  Possession and territory were equal enough in the first half and Nenagh got the first points of the match when Dan Fogarty slotted a penalty.  However, in the second quarter a good spell of possession for the Limerick team put the Nenagh defence under pressure resulting in a yellow card for an infringement at the ruck and Crescent capitalised on their superior numbers.  They scored two tries in this period, both after setting up excellent mauls from the lineout, drawing in the defenders and then exploiting the gaps to leave the half time score at 3-14.

Nenagh started the second half with renewed determination and the third quarter of the game saw them put a lot of pressure on the Old Crescent defence.  Dan Fogarty slotted three penalties in the half to bring Nenagh back to within two points and it looked like they might push on from there.  However, Old Crescent pulled away again with another try directly from a lineout maul with ten minutes to go.  Nenagh pressed hard but could not get over the line and Old Crescent were deserving winners on the night by 19 points to 12.

Next Saturday sees a return to AIL action for the lads when they travel to Seapoint on Saturday for a 2.30pm kick off.

Team: Dan Fogarty, Hugh Maloney, Salave Misionare, Lemeki Vaipulu, Michael Walsh, Michael Fogarty, Eoin Gardiner, Conor Brislane, Peter O’Connor, Jonathon Hayes, Kevin O’Gorman, Kevin O’Flaherty, Thomas McNamara, Andrew Mackey, Anthony Grey.  Reps: Aidan Doyle, John Coffey, Chris O’Meara, Kevin Seymour, John Lillis, Ruaidhri O’Brien, Gerard O’Gorman.

Under 14’s 34-29 Birr

On Sunday in Lisatunny Nenagh took on Birr and from the start the Nenagh forwards looked really up for it and gave Birr no chance to settle into the match.  After a good deal of Nenagh pressure and some hard rucking by the Nenagh forwards the Nenagh back line were released and Peter Rainsford sprinted in to open the scoring for Nenagh.

Nenagh continued to play good attacking rugby and with the forwards continuing to dominate the breakdown area number eight Jack O’Keeffe got in for three well deserved tries, one of which was converted by Jack Moran.  Just before half time Birr managed to get a breakaway try which left the half time score at 22 – 5.

Nenagh had a full squad of players on the day and made a large number of substitutions at half time.  It is always difficult when a large number of substitutions is made in one go and Nenagh found it hard to get back into the rhythm of the game and allowed Birr to score two unanswered tries.  Nenagh then began to settle into a better pattern of play and this allowed Jack Moran to score two fine individual tries increasing the Nenagh lead.  However Birr were not going to give up without a fight and scored two late tries to leave the final score at Nenagh 34 – Birr 29.

Sincere thanks to all the ladies that helped out in the kitchen on Sunday and the parents who brought an enormous amount of sandwiches and cakes on the day.

Nenagh Squad: Danny O’Connor, Eoghan Slevin, Luke Connolly, Oisín Webb, Ruan O’Hanluain, Dylan Murphy, Kian O’Kelly, Jack O’Keeffe, James Ferris, Owen Farrell, Peter Rainsford, Jack Moran, Roan Harte-Murphy, Matthew Hodgins, Conor McMahon, Dylan Knight, Oisín McMahon, Conor Malone, Lorcan Tuohy, Patrick Whelan, Aaron Reilly, Owen Geraghty, Kevin Harding and Patrick Finn.

Under 13’s

Nenagh hosted Ballina on Sunday in Tyone in perfect conditions for rugby and both teams played some great rugby.  Ballina showed the benefits of competing regularly in a strong North Munster League and they started at a pace Nenagh found hard to cope with.  They dominated the breakdown and benefitted from some wayward Nenagh kicking to score several tries in the opening 10 minutes.

Nenagh started to find their way in to the match, upped their work rate, started to win some possession and moved the ball wide.  After some great handling Liam King scored in the corner.  Nenagh started to gain some parity at the breakdown but on occasions support was slow to arrive and the ball was turned over and try scoring opportunities were lost.  When they kept the ball alive they had Ballina in trouble.  They showed great character in battling  until the final whistle and Conor White and Sean Richardson scored further tries.

The team deserves great credit considering that from the 10th minute on the teams finished level at 3 tries a piece.  Thanks to Brian O Shaughnessy of Ballina who refereed the match at short notice.  Training every Wednesday at 18.30 in Tyone.  New players welcome.

Panel: James Meagher, Hugh Guest, Jack Deane, Shane Whelan, Jack White, Danny Wilkinson, Kian McInerney, Bryan Murphy, Sean Richardson, Conor White, David O’Sullivan, Joe Cooney, Jack Hasset, Ruari Moylan, Anthony Donovan, Ben West, Liam
King and Shane Gleeson.

Mini Training

Next Sunday, December 7th, Mini training moves to the 3G all-weather surface in Ballymackey.  This was a decision made at the start of the season in anticipation of bad weather and unplayable pitches.
