Nenagh Ormond RFC Club Notes - 01/01/2015

Nenagh Ormond Seconds

Nenagh Ormond Seconds hosted Richmond on Sunday last in the Munster Senior Seconds League.  This was a very competitive game which was played with great sportsmanship from both teams.  It was some time into the first half before the first score came when Nenagh were awarded a penalty on the half way line which they kicked to touch.  They set up a maul from the ensuing lineout on the 22 and drove the whole way to the line for Kevin O’Gorman to touch down.

Soon after this Nenagh caught a Richmond kick inside their own 22 and some fantastic running and offloading saw them take the ball into the Richmond half.  They recycled well and, after several phases took them deeper into Richmond territory, they showed great handling to get the ball out to Darragh Hassey who ran a good straight line to cut through the defence to score.

However, Richmond came back into the game when they won a penalty just outside the Nenagh 22.  They kicked for touch and, after several phases in tight, they flashed the ball out to the wing for their first try which was converted.  Their second try came before half time when they again had a lineout in the Nenagh 22.  The Richmond jumper won the ball cleanly and popped it straight down to the scrum half.  Again, the Nenagh defence were caught out wide and Richmond added the conversion to leave the half time score at 10-14.

Credit to Nenagh, they started the second half with renewed determination.  Scrum half Peter O’Leary caught the ball from the kick off and made a searing break to the Richmond 22 where he offloaded to winger Marek Gribs.  Gribs made it to the 5 metre line with a strong run and Nenagh were lining out to the right for O’Leary to feed them.  The ball went through the hands and Niall O’Gorman straightened well to power through and over the try line.

Richmond went ahead again when they scored a couple of penalties due to ruck infringements.  Nenagh then dug in and were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty which they kicked to touch for a lineout on Richmond’s 22.  Their maul, which was outstanding throughout the match, took them as far as the 5 metre line where Eamon Healy broke off the back to score and secure the draw.
