Nenagh Neptune Swimming Club Notes - 18/01/2016

Nenagh Neptune swimmers complete 57.5 km in 12 hour relay swim at Nenagh Pool on 29th December.

This distance equates to the distance from Killaloe, through Lough Derg and up to Clonmacnoise, along the course of the Shannon.

50 of our swimmers, ranging from age 9 upwards, wasted no time in getting back into the water after Christmas when our fundraising Turkey Swim completed a 12 hour relay on the 29th December. Total distance covered was 57.5 km. Many thanks to all who swam, fundraised, sponsored and especially to Tom Mackey and the staff of Nenagh Leisure Centre who were most co-operative.
Normal training resumes this week commencing 4th January, for what promises to be a busy period with a number of galas scheduled in the next few weeks.

Grade C Gala in Mallow 9th January

With just one week into training after the Christmas break, 7 enthusiastic swimmers represented NNSC in the first gala of the New Year in Mallow.

All swimmers showed the tremendous amount of work and commitment they have put in since the beginning of the season in September 2015, and not even a 2 week break could stop them from swimming Personal Bests.

From the 26 entries (approx. 4 swims per athletes) the swimmers achieved 16 PB’s (personal bests) knocking an average of 4 seconds of each of their swims. Even though the competition was hard- with swimmers from many different swimming clubs partaking, we won 3 gold and 1 bronze medal!

Congratulations to 2 of our swimmers who achieved the necessary times to move up to B grade. So well done to Bronagh Doheny, Jimmy Dwyer, Stephen Gleeson, Nikolette Heveli, Sophie Hogan, Kate Phelan and Sam West who represented the club so well.

A special word of thanks needs to be expressed to the parents who accompanied the swimmers and to our coach Uta Fietsch.

Next weekend our attention turns to the Gerry Ryan Invitational Gala at UL Pool –24 of our swimmers have achieved the qualifying time and we wish them all the best in their efforts.
