With the swim term well under way, Nenagh Neptune Swimming Club has already taken part in the first galas of the season. On Sunday 17th November 72 of the clubs swimmers covering all grades, from novice through to Grade A, attended the Askeaton Invitational Gala with only one thing on their minds – to take home the Michael F. Sheehy trophy. The camaraderie and team work was very evident on the day as all swimmers made very vocal their support for whichever of their teammates was competing in each of the events. This was of course when they could be heard over the parents who travelled on the day to lend even further support (well done to the parents).
With swimmers achieving new personal bests allowing them to move up through the grades, over the day it was apparent that the points were accumulating rapidly and sure enough when the time came to announce the overall team result for the day the roof barely stayed on the pool when Nenagh were announced winners of the Michael F. Sheehy trophy. This certainly marked a milestone in the Clubs history as our first ever team trophy win. Thank you to all the parents who supervised on the buses for the day.
This event was followed quickly by the Muster Grade B Gala which Nenagh Neptune hosted for the Muster branch of Swim Ireland on the following Saturday 23rd Nov. Nenagh Neptune was represented by 18 of our Grade B swimmers all hoping to achieve Grade A times. Along with the four traveling clubs from Limerick, Ennis, Tipperary and Thurles this brought the number of Grade B swimmers to 102 in total. The meet was a great success as we managed to overcome some small technical hurdles and many thanks go to Joe King from Askeaton who generously provided much needed guidance on the day and Mary Phelan, President of Swim Ireland, for officiating at the meet.
Our thanks also go out to all the officials, timekeepers, coaches and parents from all clubs who make the running of these events achievable, and all those who provided the grub for the day. Special thanks go to Nenagh Parish and Alan Johnston Sound for their support in this event. As always we extend our gratitude to Nenagh Pool, Tom Mackey and staff for their continued support for these events.
Now to the business end. Our AGM took place on Tuesday 12th November and was well attended. The meeting was brisk and had some lively discussions regarding the new constitution which was unanimously voted in on the night. A new committee was also elected on the night and for the first time in many years none of the existing members transitioned to the new committee. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing committee who have held the reins over the past few years and steered the club into the good position we find ourselves in today. We hope that we can continue to advance the club with the same commitment and outlook for the future.
