Nenagh Golf Club is celebrating after PGA pro Ryan McCann and club captain Seán Minogue finished sixth in the ten-team Lombard Challenge (a PGA Pro-Captain Tournament) event at the Antalya Golf Club in Turkey which carried a £25,000 prize fund.

The duo carded rounds of 68 and 69 over the par 71 PGA Sultan Course for a five-under-par 137 total. It earned McCann prize money of £2,100. The pair finished seven shots behind the winning team of Shirland Golf Club from Derbyshire.

The Lombard Challenge, a PGA Pro-Captain Tournament, was launched in 1993, and features more than 500 clubs and golf facilities from across Great Britain and Ireland.


Sunday, December 1st: 14 Holes Fourball - heavy rain early on Sunday morning led to the cancellation of the 14 holes fourball competition.


Wednesday, December 5th Corky Golf Balls; Friday, December 7th Senior Retired Open; Sunday, December 9th 14 holes Team of Two.

Senior Retired Open: The Senior Retired Open singles will be held every Friday for the winter from 10am to 12 noon. It will be over 14 holes from the green markers and €5 for members and €12 for guests.

Societies: Saturday, December 8th - Midwest Teachers Golf Society (9am-9.56am); Front Bar Golf Society (10am-11.30am); Tony Maher Society (11.40am-11.56am); Just One Golf Society (12.02pm-12.36pm).

New flags

Members will notice the new flags on the green that will be in position soon. They are colour-coded for distance measurements. Blue flags will mean that the pin is cut at the back of the green; yellow will mean middle of the green and red flag donated that the pin is at the front.

These new flags are sponsored by Slattery’s Garage, Puckane, main Peugeot and Subaru dealers and the club is grateful for their assistance with this initiative.

Poker Classics

The following are the dates for the Poker Classic at the club for the season: Friday, December 14th at 8 pm; Friday, January 25th at 8pm; Friday, February 22nd at 8pm. Entry fee €20 (including refreshments).


The annual general meeting of the parent club will take place in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh on Monday, December 10th at 8pm. Please make an effort to attend and take an interest in the running of your club.


Starting December 1st until December 31st 12-hole singles S/F. Entry fee €3. Enter as many times as you wish. Best card to count.  Domestic handicap applies.

The Christmas Party is on December 7th and the name sheet is now up in the locker room. 

Christmas Party competition is a 12-hole singles competition on both Thursday the 6th and Friday the 7th with prizes from 1-10. Conditions of play are mark, lift, clean and place within six inches on the fairway and also in the rough.
