Nenagh Éire Óg - Club Notes 09/03/2015

Challenge Cup: Nenagh Éire Óg suffered a defeat in their opening competitive fixture of the year when losing by five points (2-11 to 1-19) to an impressive Kildangan at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh on Sunday afternoon. Kildangan will now progress to face the Templederry Kenyons in the next round while Nenagh Éire Óg will take on Boherlahan-Dualla who lost to Ballingarry (1-8 to 1-17) in the opening round of this year’s competition. This game is likely to take place on the week-ending Sunday, March 15th. Please keep an eye on the fixtures section of the website and all club social media channels for updates. For a report on the Kildangan game please see the club website.

County Championship: The schedule of matches for the forthcoming Clean Ireland Recycling County Senior Hurling Championship were confirmed last week by the CCC - in the opening round Éire Óg will face the Templederry Kenyons, then Ballina and, finally, Clonoulty-Rossmore during the group stage of this year’s championship. The structure of the season would suggest that Éire Óg will face Toomevara in the opening round of the Hibernian Inn North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship in May prior to the third round of the county senior hurling championship. The club will confirm the dates, times and venues for those encounters as soon as they become available.

Congratulations: Well done to Barry Heffernan and Donnacha Quinn who won the Fresher’s All-Ireland hurling title with the University of Limerick at Mallow on Thursday, March 5th. UL, managed by Limerick’s Gary Kirby, beat UCC after extra-time on a 1-24 to 1-18 scoreline.

Good Luck: Best wishes to Tommy Heffernan and Dáire Quinn who feature on the University of Limerick team which faces the Waterford Institute of Technology in the replayed Fitzgibbon Cup final on Wednesday, March 11th (7.30pm) in Páirc Uí Rinn, Cork. The drawn final at Páirc na nGael, Limerick ended in a thrilling 3-12 to 0-21 stalemate after extra-time.

Anniversary Mass: The month’s mind mass in honour of the recently deceased Brian Gubbins will take place at the St Mary of the Rosary Church, Nenagh on Sunday, March 15th at 12.15pm.

Newsletter: The February edition of the club newsletter is now available to download. Highlights of this latest issue include a report from the 1915 north final success and, of course, much, much more. Our thanks, as always, go out to the club communications sub-committee and in particular to Catherine McTiernan and Enda O’Sullivan for pulling this terrific publication together.
