Nenagh & District Darts League Finals Night 2015/16

Mills Bar - A League runners up

This years Nenagh & District league finals took place over the last few weeks.

The first final played was the A league final between last years winners The Well A and Mills Bar, Ballina. It was Mills first year back in the league after a break and their 4th final over all.

The first Leg saw a super standard of darts in the Well Bar with Mills taking an early lead of 5 legs to 1, but a super finish of 81 on the bull from Mikey Fleming turned the tide and spurred on the home side. Onto singles and a great checkout of 156 from Mark Tanner (A High Checkout) took the Well side 7-6 up before Mills won the last 2 to take an 8-7 slender lead going into the second leg.

The second leg took place in Mills on April 15th and this was again a great standard of darts, the Well A took the first 2 games of doubles 2-1, 2-1 to go 11-10 up but Mills hit back to win the last doubles 3-0 to take a lead of 13-11 going into the singles. The Well bar came out very strong in the singles to win 5 games in a row and secure a second A league win and back to back titles at that to add to the A shield they won in December. The winning leg played by Brian Freeman was a super 14 darter.

Both teams played great stuff over the two nights and its a credit to the great standard of darts the League now has.

The B league final was between Phillys Bar, Nenagh and the Clodagh A from Borrisoleigh. This was to be a cracker as well, with Phillys taking a commanding lead of 9 legs to 2 on the first night only for a brave fightback from the Clodagh boys, the first leg finished 9-6 to Phillys.

The second leg of the final proved a nip and tuck affair with the Clodagh fighting back again strongly but Phillys managed to keep their noses in front. Super darts from Dylan Walsh, Tom Ford and Robbie Ryan proving too strong for the Borris boys.

Shane Healy took the high checkout of 93 also for Phillys.

The game finished up 16-12 to Phillys and they have added a B League to the C shield they won in December making it a Great year for the Team.

The C league final was between the two Kenyon bar teams and promised to be a ding dong battle. The Kenyon B team lead by Robert O Gorman this year would be the favourites going into this but that means nothing on a dartboard with the pressure of a league title at stake.

After the First leg the Kenyon B team held a strong 10-5 lead over the Kenyon A in a race to 16 points. This didnt put John Collins and the rest of his team off as they knew they could turn things around if they started quickly in the doubes, and thats what they did they won the doubles on a score of 6-3 to bring the game back to 13-11 and make the Kenyon B think hard. The game went down to the 5th game of singles before the Kenyon B took the game and the C league after years of trying to win a title.

The match finished up with the Kenyon B winning 16 - 13.

Alan Quigley had the high checkout with 108.

A big thanks to all who helped out with the finals nights and to Peter Daly for organising the trophies and to Tadhg o Flynns Jewellers In Nenagh for supplying them.
Also the checkers and markers of all finals thank you.

To all the pubs for staging of the finals and for supplying food and this goes for all pubs/teams entered in the league this year, its been a long but highly competitive league this year and the standard has risen to great heights.
The AGM details will be announced after the North Tipperary Cup this year with The Well A playing the A section and the winners of a play-off between Phillys and The Well B playing the B section, this will be held in Roscrea on Saturday May 28th."

Cheers,
Johnny
