Nenagh Arts Centre Update

Louise Morrissey presents a Country Christmas at Nenagh Arts Centre

Louise Morrissey brings her Christmas show to Nenagh with special guests Crystal Swing, Gary Gamble (as Daniel O’Double), Thomas Grogan and Morrissey and Daniels. Expect Louise’s unique brand of country and Irish music with songs from her recent album ‘Home Sweet Home’. This is Louise’s second visit to the Arts Centre following an excellent concert at the venue last year.

Manager at Nenagh Arts Centre, Brendan Maher said this week: “Following the Christmas lights being turned on last weekend in Banba Square, we’re continuing on with the seasonal mood in the Arts Centre with this show by Louise and her friends. We’re expecting some familiar songs from Louise’s repertoire as well as a few well-known Christmas tracks thrown in for good measure to get everybody in the festive spirit. MC for the evening will be Norman Morrissey.”

The show kicks off at 8 p.m. on this Saturday, December 6th. Admission is €20 and tickets are available online at www.nenagharts.com or from the Arts Centre on 067 34400.

Academy Award-winner ’12 Years a Slave’ screens at the Arts Centre

As the closing film of its film season, Nenagh Arts Centre is screening the Academy Award winning ’12 years A Slave’ on Thursday the 11th of December.

Directed by Steve MacQueen, the films details the struggles of a free black man in the years before the American Civil War. Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), from upstate New York, is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the South. Subjected to the cruelty of one malevolent owner (Michael Fassbender), he also finds unexpected kindness from another, as he struggles continually to survive and maintain some of his dignity. Then in the 12th year of the disheartening ordeal, a chance meeting with an abolitionist from Canada changes Solomon's life forever.

Often brutal, but truly life –affirming this film is a must see and the Arts Centre showing offers the opportunity to witness its power again on the big screen.

Admission for the film is €8 Tickets can be booked in advance from Nenagh Arts Centre on 067 34400, online at www.nenagharts.com or purchased at the door on screening night at 8 p.m. on Thursday 11th of December. The film screening is supported by Global Solutions.
