Mini Blitz at Nenagh Ormond 05/10/2015

Mini Blitz at Nenagh Ormond

Under 12s

Nenagh Under 12’s played two hard fought matches on Sunday in a sunny Lisatunny.  There are still some players to return and it was a good run out for the start of the season.  Nenagh played Portumna first and performed very well with tries from Charlie Cavanagh and Joe Shanahan and some good tackling from Charlie and DarraghKyne.  There was some excellent rucking and continuity and the skills on show were impressive.

This match was followed by a break and a tough game against a strong Kilfeacle side.  Joe Shanahan again scored a try that had to go to the TMO but was awarded!  There was excellent tackling by Joseph Gleeson, DarraghKyne and some lovely running from Jack O’Flaherty and Sean O’Callaghan.  Paddy Griffen carried a lot of ball and all the players showed great endeavour.

We will need further work in training re the tackling with some of the boys still using arms instead of shoulders but that will improve as the season progresses.  We look forward to the players that have yet to return and would welcome any new players that want to come to try out rugby, anyone born in 2004 is eligible for U12 rugby this season.

Squad: Joseph Gleeson, Joe Shanahan, Paddy Griffen, Conor Tierney, Charlie Cavanagh, Joe Kyne, DarraghKyne, MateiHalmagne, Frank Manley, Jack O’Flaherty, Eoin Ward, Sean Moylan, Sean O’Callaghan.

Under 11s

Last Sunday we welcomed Kilfeacle RFC Under 11's to Lisatunny. On a lovely autumn morning we played three segments of 10-a-side rugby. This allowed all our young players to get loads of game time. We had a total of 18 players present with a few more unavoidably absent.

While we lost by a few tries, our rugby was excellent and in particular our rucking, tackling and passing has improved as our players have gotten older and wiser! With time and practice we will improve even more.  The highlights of the day were two spectacular tries, one by Sean and the second by Mason. Both tries came out of good turnovers and quick hands in midfield. It was our first experience of the 5 man scrum and while it will take a little getting used to, it was an enjoyable experience.

Our thanks to Kilfeacle RFC for an enjoyable and competitive match. Training continues everySunday morning at 10am in Lisatunny for players born in 2005.  New or returning players are always welcome.  Please contact Ger Ryan on 087 9906206 or any of the coaching staff for details.  Thanks to all our coaches, parents and players for attending in such numbers.

Under 10s

NenaghOrmond Under10s had a great turn out for their first home blitz against Portumna and every player enjoyed the day.  All players showed great enthusiasm and promise for the season ahead during their game with excellent passing and running.

Unfortunately Kilfeacledid not field an under 10 team but we played a training game between ourselves so everyone got plenty of pitch time and experience.  Well done to all.

Under 9s

NenaghOrmond Under 9s fielded two teams against visitors Portumna and Kilfeakle on Sunday last. In all, 28 Nenagh players togged out to play.

The coaches ensured that everyone got lots of game time. The work in training is bearing fruit with lots of good running, passing and tackling skills evident throughout. Everyone played their part, but a special mention must go to Ryan Gratton and Harry O’Brien who played superbly.

Training returns on Sunday next in Lisatunny. There are a lot of new skills to be passed on at this level so there is a lot of work to be done in training over the next few weeks.

Under 8s

NORFC Under 8's hosted Portumna and Kilfeakle at Lisatunny on Sunday last.  Nenagh had two Under 8 teams playing. They first played Portumna in a game of non-contact rugby.  There was a great display of skill from both sides with excellent line breaks and support play.  There were also a number of well worked tries however Nenagh were to be the more dominant in both games against Portumna.

The Nenagh teams also played Kilfeakle in games of contact rugby. Both teams have only recently progressed to full contact rugby but despite this there was very good structure to the game with good picking and driving skills being shown. A four pass rule was enforced which ensured all those that played got involved. There were some excellent tries from both sides with Nenagh and Kilfeakle drawing both games.

Under 7s

Nenagh Ormond Under 7s had three games at the Blitz in Lisatunny on Sunday morning.  We had two Nenagh Under 7 teams which each played Kilfeakle and Portumna and finally the two Nenagh teams played each other at the end.  All the teams were evenly matched with most of the matches ending in a draw.

Our Under 7s have had just three training sessions since they were introduced to rugby and Sunday was their first blitz.  Everyone had an enjoyable day in the sunshine on Nenagh Ormond's main pitch.  They were looking forward to resting up and watching Ireland V Italy in the World Cup later on Sunday afternoon.
