Nenagh’s Margaret O’Connor (pictured back right), joint-managing director of the Quigley’s Bakery, has been named entrepreneur of the year at the IMAGE Magazine Businesswomen of the Year awards ceremony.
Head-quartered in Nenagh Quigley’s Bakery employs over one hundred and fifty staff while the company’s café bakery delis are dotted across the country (five in Tipperary, three in Limerick, two in Tullamore and one each in Cork, Kilkenny, Carlow, Westmeath, Kildare & Dublin). The company plans to extend its deli in Roscrea Shopping Centre.
While accepting her award Margaret O’Connor took some time to praise her staff for their efforts: “without the hard work, dedication and commitment of every single member of staff we wouldn’t be here today. Everybody at Quigley’s takes such pride in their work and that passion for food comes across in every shop. I would especially like to pay tribute to the hard work of Betty Slattery on the retail side, Freda Armitage, our office manager, and to Mary Quinn at the Bakery and Food Kitchens.
“As a proud Tipperary woman I am delighted to say that every loaf of bread, every savoury snack and every slice of cake we sell across the country is handmade from scratch right here in Tipperary,” Margaret O’Connor added.
Now in its sixth year the awards, which are supported by Enterprise Ireland RTÉ, were hosted at the St Stephen’s Green Hibernian Club.
