Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club Notes 03/03/2014

Lough Derg S.A.C. would first and foremost like to congratulate Mike Orth of Limerick S.A.C. on his election to the position of President of The Irish Underwater Council (Comhairle Fó Thuinn).  Fellow Limerick man and Aughinish S.A.C. diver Martin Kiely completed his term as National Diving Officer and we thank him for all the sterling work he has undertaken during his tenure.  His successor is Dermot Moynihan who served a term as regional diving officer for Dublin North and we wish him all the best in his new role.  The election was held at the council's A.G.M. at the New Park Hotel, Kilkenny during the 2014 Dive Ireland International Expo.  Simon Coveney TD, minister of agriculture, marine and food was in attendance at the show on Sunday.  The annual two day event was very well organised and run by Kilkenny S.A.C. and we would like to congratulate them also for a very entertaining billing that included a talk from Brian Mc Callister who is a commercial diver involved in the salvage of the cruise ship Costa Concordia which ran aground and partially sank off the coast of Italy in January 2012.

Dive Ireland International 2015 will be held in The Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh in March of next year hosted by Lough Derg S.A.C. and plans for the event will now begin in earnest.

Lough Derg S.A.C. along with their Search & Recovery unit would like to express their deep thanks for all who supported the table quiz held in Philly Ryan's pub last Friday night.  The winning table on the night were extremely generous in handing back their cash prize.  A very honourable gesture indeed.  Until next week, dive safe!
