Sean Ghael Award: Congratulations to Tom McLoughney who will be presented with a Sean Ghael Award in the Dome Semple Stadium on this Sunday, November 18th. Tom began his MacDonagh’s career as a ten-year-old in 1951. Since then he has given outstanding service as a player, selector and committee member.

In 1961 he became the first MacDonagh’s player to win an All-Ireland senior medal and collected his second Celtic Cross the following year. Tom also won three Munster medals, two National League medals, two Oireachtas medals and two North senior medals. He was a regular in the number fourteen shirt who revelled in the robust exchanges of that era. Tom was a shrewd selector on the MacDonagh’s senior team which won three north and county titles in-a-row in the seventies and was a mentor with the Tipperary senior team in 1980. Knowledgeable and passionate about hurling he is a familiar presence when MacDonagh’s and Tipperary are in action. The affable Tom is a legendary figure in the parish, admired for his achievements on the field and respected for his invaluable contribution to the club. He is still actively involved on the committee and is also vice-president of Kilruane MacDonagh’s.

Schools Football: After their success against Borrisoleigh in the north final Ardcroney NS took on Boherlahan NS in the county final at the Ragg. Boherlahan came out on top after a great tussle on a 4-12 to 4-4 scoreline. Paddy Kelly, chairman of Cumann na mBunscol, presented the Ardcroney panel with their runners-up medals. Well done to Ardcroney on a great campaign and congratulations to Boherlahan. Thanks to Drom & Inch for the use of their pitch and facilities.

Under-21: In the under-21A semi-final Kilruane MacDonagh’s will play the winners of the Nenagh and Lorrha game.

AGM: The Annual General Meeting will be held in the clubroom on Friday, December 7th at 8pm. It will be preceded by mass for deceased members in Cloughjordan Church at 7.30pm. All players and supporters are invited to attend.

Monster Sale of Work & Auction: The news that the club is organising a Monster Sale of Work & Auction in the Thomas MacDonagh Complex on Sunday, January 27th has received a very positive response from club members. It will take a gargantuan effort by committee, players and supporters to make this a successful venture. However, we are confident that the parish will rally to the cause. Pledges of timber, turf, briquettes, farm produce, fodder, vouchers, cakes, buns, beer, spirits, electrical goods, furniture are already coming in. We will be grateful for any items that can be lawfully turned into euros. So, we are hoping that all club members and supporters will make some donation to the sale or auction. Club members, supporters and players are also asked to canvass their friends, neighbours and business acquaintances for any item big or small that can be sold or auctioned. Len Gaynor (086 311 0657) is co-ordinating the timber operations. So, if you can donate a tree or a load of timber you can make contact with Len. He has a number of highly-trained chainsaw gangs primed for action and he has also recruited some of the best hatchet men in the parish who are sharpening their axes for the impending log splitting. A list of pledged items will be updated in the weekly notes on the website. On the day of the sale of work tea will be served and the ever-popular wheel of fortune will be in operation. There will also be a raffle for a trailer of timber.
