John Wayne’s ‘The Searchers’ at Nenagh Arts Centre

Nenagh Arts Centre brings back it’s big screen classic cinema season with the classic John Ford/John Wayne western ‘The Searchers’.

Set during the latter part of the Texas–Indian Wars, the film stars John Wayne as a middle-aged Civil War veteran Ethan Edwards, who spends years looking for his niece (Natalie Wood) who was abducted by marauding Comanche Indians. Accompanied by his adoptive nephew (Jeffrey Hunter), Edwards goes on a long journey, full of doubt, anger and violence to find the girl.

Wayne’s character in the film, has been described as "one of the most compelling characters Ford and Wayne ever created” with the feeling lingering throughout the film that he is somehow morally bankrupt and that the obsessive quest for the girl suggests that his previous life as a soldier has now made him unfit for ‘decent society’.

Admission is €8 and the film starts at 8 p.m. on Thursday 20th February. Tickets are available on the door.
