Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed the news that two Tipperary schools feature on the Government's 2015 School Building Programme with their extension projects going to construction in 2015. Meanwhile, three other important Tipperary school building projects will remain ongoing from 2014.
"This is very positive news for Sacred Heart NS, Roscrea and Carrig NS, Nenagh whose extension projects will go to construction in 2015. I have been making strong representations on behalf of both schools for the advancement of these pressing projects and I am pleased to see my lobbying has helped the projects proceed.
"I want to compliment the efforts of the Principal, the board of management, teaching staff and students of Sacred Heart NS and Carrig NS who have made excellent strides over the years despite difficult economic conditions. Sacred Heart NS is a DEIS school which has been operating under difficult crowded conditions for a number of years and I am delighted that facilities at the school will improve significantly in future years following this announcement," said Deputy Coonan.
"It has been possible to add a further 16 projects to the five year plan at this stage including Sacred Heart NS and Carrig NS. This represents an extra investment in the education sector and construction industry and is a sure sign that Fine Gael management of the economy is paying dividends targeting the education and construction sector in Tipperary and nationwide.
"Meanwhile, ongoing projects will continue into 2015 for Scoil Mhuire Presentation Secondary School in Ballingarry, Thurles and Our Lady's Secondary School in Templemore who are both building extensions. A new school for Comeragh CC, Carrick-On-Suir will also continue.
"This will come as very welcome news to the staff, students and associated families of the schools. It will also greatly enhance the learning environments and improve accommodation up to a more modern standard," concluded Deputy Coonan.
