Free Access to Heritage Sites in Tipperary

“Access to heritage sites is free on the first Wednesday of every month and I encourage everyone to get out there and to explore the sites in your local area,” says Noel Coonan, Fine Gael TD for Tipperary.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has confirmed the continued free access to all OPW Heritage Sites on the first Wednesday of every month.

This concession was introduced in 2011 and has proven extremely successful. In 2014 approximately 70,000 people, both tourists and locals, availed of this offer. This is an excellent opportunity for people to find out more about heritage sites around the country at no cost.

In Tipperary, this offer is available at the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle, Roscrea Castle and Damer House and Swiss Cottage.

“Tipperary is rich in history that we often take for granted. The first free Wednesday concession is a great opportunity for everyone to find out more about our local area and in turn to encourage others to visit these sites. I would particularly appeal to schools and community groups to consider local heritage sites as a possible outing and if the trips are arranged for the first Wednesday of the month, they will be completely free,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
