Extra Funding for Anti-Bullying Sessions in Tipperary

Noel Coonan TD has welcomed extra funding allocated by the Department of Education and Skills for the delivery of anti-bullying training sessions for parents.

Deputy Coonan said, as a result of this €55,000 funding, a session will take place in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh on October 13 and in the Clonmel Park Hotel on October 6th. The funding is on top of €60,000 announced earlier this year; bringing the 2014 allocation to a total of €115,000.

The Anti-Bullying Parent Training Programme is being run jointly by the National Parents Council Primary (NPC-P) and the National Parents Council Post Primary (NPC-PP) to support the implementation of the Action Plan on Bullying which called for training and resources for parents and boards of management.

Deputy Coonan continued: "This series of meetings follows 105 sessions held in 2013. The sessions are hugely beneficial in aiding parents to support their children and liaise with schools if there are any bullying issues, for example cyber bullying. The meetings were very popular last year and afford Tipperary parents the opportunity to learns the tools to manage a situation that may arise.

"The funding has been welcomed by the National Parents Council Primary (NPC-P) and the National Parents Council Post Primary (NPC-PP) who recognise it's importance," concluded Deputy Coonan.
