David Gray presents a spell-binding set at Nenagh Arts Centre
English singer-songwriter David Gray brought his ‘Sounding Out’ tour to Nenagh Arts Centre last Sunday and held a capacity audience rapt over a two hour set. The ‘Sounding Out Tour’allowed Gray to present some new songs in a number of smaller theatres and venues across the country and Nenagh Arts Centre was included as part of the tour.
Support was from Lisa O’Neill who presented a striking half-hour performance, before the audience welcomed the main act. Gray came on stage to a rapturous reception and proceeded to bowl the audience over with his heartfelt songs. Classic tracks such as ‘This Year's Love’, ‘Babylon’, ‘Sail Away’ were interspersed with a series of new songs and instrumentation provided by way of cello, guitar and keyboards enhanced the mood.
The audience joined in one of the last songs ‘Sail Away’ and indeed sailed home happy, expectant of a new album from the British troubadour, a songwriter at the top of his game. Later Gray noted that the tour was special, with a positive feeling to each show and he thanked the Nenagh audience for their warm reception.
