A Great Weekend at the Visit Nenagh.ie Classic

Nenagh played host to the third Visit Nenagh.ie Classic last weekend. The Team Time Trial kicked off proceedings on the Saturday from the Five Alley to Birdhill and back. The NWVG Bike4Air (Holland) team retained the title they won the previous year but only just as UCD Cycling Club were only 6 seconds behind with the National Junior Development Team in 3rd. The Ladies Team Time Trial was won by Orwell Wheelers with the Irish Junior Ladies team in 2nd.

Sunday morning at 11.00am in Pearse Street saw the A1 race and the North Tipperary Sports Partnership Family Fun Cycle start together led out by the Nenagh Ormond Brass Band. The North Tipperary Sports Partnership Family Fun Cycle took place over a distance of 7km where adults and kids took part in a very enjoyable experience.

The on street market was a hub of activity all through the day with market stalls and local food and produce, crafts, etc. TIPP FM broadcasted live from Pearse Street whilst there was more family entertainment in Banba Square.

There were 4 main races on Sunday. The A4 race was run over a distance of 67.3km and was won by Simon Doggan (Aqua Blue) with Alan Ryan (St. Finbarrs) and Will Hennebry (Iverk Carrick) taking 2nd and 3rd respectively.

17 year old Eddie Dunbar (Irish Junior Development Squad) won the A3 race for the second year in a row and he was followed home by team mate Michael O’Loughlin with Craig McCauly (Ulster Junior Development Squad) in 3rd.

Fiona Meade (Blarney) won the inaugural Ladies Race with Mel Spaith (Leinster) in 2nd and Fran Meehan (Aqua Blue) in 3rd.

The A1 race was the highlight of the day over a gruelling 154km. Damien Shaw (Aquablue) who was 2nd in this race last year came home in 1st with team mates Sean Lacey and Dylan Foley making it a 1,2,3 for the Aquablue team which is managed by 2013 Visit Nenagh Classic Winner Timmy Barry.

Eoin Fitzgibbon of BREO Jewellers presented 1st prize in the A3 race to Eddie Dunbar. Philo Freeman from Killoran Slate presented a slate trophy to Damien Shaw winner of the A1 race.

Congratulations to all involved in making the Visit Nenagh.ie Classic a great success.
