The Chastitute

The Chastitute by Borrisoleigh Drama Group for one extra night only

Due to popular demand The Chastitute, By John B Keane, will be performed by Borrisoleigh Drama Group, for one extra night only on Monday May 2nd in The Marian Hall, Borrisoleigh at 7.45pm sharp.

There is no doubt now about the ability of Borrisoleigh Drama Group who surpassed themselves with their recent performance of The Chastitute, By John B Keane. People had to be turned away on each night of the performance as there wasn’t an empty seat in the house. Some people even went two nights in a row they were so impressed with the first night’s performance! They laughed and they cried and all stood in a standing ovation at the end of each night’s performance.

This has been a major accomplishment for Borrisoleigh Drama Group, as it is only their fourth production. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all the cast, crew and production team who have worked tirelessly over the past number of months.

The Chastitute was a new word introduced by John B Keane into the English language. “A Chastitute is a person without holy orders who has never lain down with a woman… a rustic celibate by force of circumstace.
The play centres around John Bosco McLaine, played by Ollie Delaney, a middle aged bachelor farmer living in the country. Through a combination of bad luck, lack of social skills and religiously inspired sexual guilt, John Bosco remains a chastitute. In the play he recalls tales from his past and also tries to rectify the current situation aided, and thwarted, by his Aunt Jane (Christine O Dwyer), a local matchmaker Mickey Molly (Paul Boyle) womaniser Sylvester Brady (Micheal ‘Cecil’ Tierney).

This is your last opportunity to see this magnificent performance of The Chastitute, By John B Keane, performed by Borrisoleigh Drama Group for one night only on Monday May 2nd in The Marian Hall, Borrisoleigh.
