Things To Do In & Around Nenagh This Weekend

Nenagh Country Market

For a real taste of home baking visit Nenagh Country Market which takes place in the New Institute, Friar Street each Friday morning from 8.00am to 1.30pm. Locally produced goods include tarts, cakes, buns, fruit cakes, cheese cakes, lasagnes, quiches, breads, jams & chutneys, free range eggs, chickens and ducks. A wide range of locally grown potatoes and vegetables are also available.

Portroe Gathering 2014

Portroe will host a 2014 gathering from Friday 29th August to Sunday 31st August. There is something for the whole community and visitors to the area throughout the weekend.

Friday 29th August

  • 7:30pm Tony Gleeson Memorial Monument unveiled by Portroe Tidy Towns in Portroe village
  • 8:30pm Official Opening of the Portroe Gathering 2014 in Portroe Hall. Local Hobby, business and craft displays. 2014 Homegrown Heroes.
  • Opening night parties in local bars

Saturday 30th August

  • 12 Noon Millennium Cross walk from Killoran Community Centre
  • 2:30pm Tea and Refreshments in Killoran
  • 3pm Millennium Cross Project and history Q&A session.
  • 6:30pm Magic Show on the green in Garrykennedy
  • 7pm Garrykennedy village history walk
  • Music and dance in local bars

Sunday 31st August

  • 12 Noon Family Fun Day in Portroe GAA Grounds. Official Opening of Astro Turf and Hurling Wall. Memorial GAA Game. BBQ.
  • 4pm Portroe’s Attempt at Ireland’s longest Loom Band Chain.
  • 4:30pm Official Closing of the Portroe Gathering.
  • Gathering closing parties in local bars.

Portroe is gathering once again, all are welcome to join us for this action packed weekend.

The Watch Centre Junior A Hurling Semi Finals

The Watch Centre North Tipperary Junior A Hurling Semi Finals take place on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th August. First up is the clash of Kildangan and Roscrea in Toomevara at 6.30pm on Friday 29th August. The second semi final sees Nenagh Éire Óg take on Kilruane MacDonaghs in Moneygall at 6.30pm on Saturday 30th August.

Celebrity All Ireland Final Preview Charity Night

A Celebrity All-Ireland Final Preview Charity Night in aid of Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre and Pieta House will take place on Friday 29th August in Young’s, The Ragg. MC on the night will be Paul Collins from Today FM with special guests:

  • Ger Loughnane (TV pundit)
  • T.J. Ryan (Limerick manager)
  • Michael Kavanagh (former Kilkenny hurler)
  • Ritchie Stakelum (former Tipperary hurler and current Dublin selector)
  • Eamon Corcoran (former Tipperary hurler)
  • Tommy Dunne (former Tipperary hurler)
  • DJ Carey (former Kilkenny hurler)

Tickets are available for €10 from: YOUNG’S, The Ragg, PHILLY’S, Nenagh. Come along for a great night of banter and chat and help raise funds for two very worthy charities. Refreshments served on the night and there will also be a raffle. Music by Silver Dollar after the main event.

The Friday night Music Session takes place in The Piano Bar at The Kenyon on Friday, August 29th from 10.30pm.

Irish Kidney Association Scramble

The Irish Kidney Association fundraiser Scramble will take place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of August at Nenagh Golf Club. This is an open competition in which any combinations of ladies and gents can play. Handicap will be one tenth of the combined. No limits. Cost is €60 per team.

Nenagh Éire Óg Clothes Recycling Drive

Nenagh Éire Óg Juvenile Club are hosting a clothing recycling drive on Saturday, August 30th. Please donate at the clubhouse before 12 noon! Please donate all your new and used men’s and women’s and children’s clean and unwanted clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, ties, linens and household textiles. Mobile phones in a separate bag please! Shannon Suir Cycle - Free Training Spin

There will be a training spin for anyone interested in participating in some or all of the North Tipp Hospice Shannon Suir Cycle on Saturday 30th August from Woodie’s Car park at 10am and will be to Daly’s Cross and back at approx 22-24km/hr.

Peoples Picnic 2014 at Nenagh Castle

The People’s Picnic Festival will take place in the Castle Field on Saturday 30th August from 1.00pm to 5.30pm. This free event will feature music from Crystal Swing and Ebony in the big marquee. There will also be a range of fun activities for kids including carousel, a bouncy castle, face painting and a kiddies disco.

There will be picnic tables set up in the grounds and people can bring their own picnic or purchase food from the local food fair which includes tea, coffee, home baking, burgers etc.

Nenagh Farmers Market

The Peoples Picnic is on in The Castle Park on Saturday 30th August. James will be in Quintin’s Way as usual with his wonderful veg but Malachy, Gillian, Michael and Tracy will be in the Castle Field with wonderful hot and cold food for you.
