Nenagh Ormond Notes

UBL Division 2A
Nenagh Ormond 6-11 Cashel

Nenagh Ormond Senior Team hosted Cashel RFC on Friday night in their penultimate League match of the season.  With Nenagh in fourth and Cashel in fifth place this was a must win match for both teams with only one round left to go.  Cashel were focussed and aggressive and dominated for large parts of the match while Nenagh struggled to hold onto possession and errors and turnovers ended many of their attacks.

Cashel got on the scoreboard early when they won a penalty which they kicked to touch.  They set up a maul from the lineout which Nenagh defended well but the Cashel scrum half was quick to get his hands on the ball and he caught the defence off guard with a dummy before he raced through a small gap and over the try line to put Cashel five points ahead.  Nenagh then had some promising phases but couldn’t take their chances before Cashel regained possession again.

Nenagh did come back into the game with two penalties which left them ahead at half time by 6 points to 5 but this did not reflect Cashel’s dominance which continued in the second half.  Cashel added two penalties to their tally and, although Nenagh kept working hard and the defensive effort was excellent, they couldn’t get a foothold in Cashel territory for long enough to add to their score.

This was a disappointing night for the players and coaches but any negative thoughts will have to be set aside quickly before the final round next week.  The lads are away to UCC this Saturday in their final match of the Ulster Bank League for the 2015/16 season.  Still in fourth place on the table but with Cashel on equal points, the lads will need a big win here to stay in contention for play offs.  Kick off at 2.30pm.

Team: Michael Walsh, Ruaidhri O’Brien, Derek Corcoran, William O’Connor, Eathon Moloney, Kolio Hifo, Mike Fogarty, Conor Brislane, Peter O’Connor, Fergal Brislane, Kevin O’Gorman, Kevin O’Flaherty, Michael Slattery, Anthony Kavanagh, Lemeki Vaipulu.
Replacements: John Healy, Anthony Grey, Aidan Doyle, Peter O’Leary, David Corcoran.

U13 Conference Final
Nenagh Ormond 39-19 Ennis

Nenagh Ormond Under 13s played Ennis on Easter Monday in wonderful conditions at Richmond RFC in front of a large crowd. We were served up a super game of rugby by two very skilful teams.

Ennis got a great start when their number 13 broke from inside his own half and beat many defenders to score a great try. Nenagh didn't drop their heads and tore into the opposition from the restart and after many phases Darragh Tucker got over in the corner.

We were now playing some great aggressive attacking rugby and Adam Clear showed what he has been threatening all year with a sensational score under the posts. James Finn added
the extras and soon after got a try of his own out wide on the left. Ennis weren't going to lie down and just on half time the number 13 cut us open again to bring the half time score to 17-12 in favour of Nenagh.

Josh Delaney was introduced at half time, carried some great ball and opened up space out wide for Adam Clear to get his second try but back again came Ennis and the outside centre got his hat trick under the posts leaving the game wide open.

Nenagh kicked off and Ennis broke again but John Brislane put in a huge hit on the centre as he tried to get his pass away. James Finn intercepted to make the result safe. The last five minutes were the icing on the cake with Adam Clear scoring his hat trick try and in the final play Josh Delaney ran half the length of the field only to be stopped five metres short but the forwards were there in support and after a couple of tight drives John Brislane drove over.

This team has shown great commitment all year and this was their reward. A very big squad and while all don't get to play everyone on the panel can take satisfaction from this result.

Team: Sonny Dower, Adam Clear, DJ McGrath, Peter Collins, Liam Cooney, James Finn, Niall O'Sullivan, Jack Gleeson, Sean Fitzgerald, Patrick Fogarty, Tom Kennedy, Darragh Tucker, Eoghan Tighe, Evan Rainsford, John Brislane (captain).  Subs: George O'Leary, Cian White, Josh Delaney, Paddy Ryan, Eoin Quinn, Adam Steed, Andrew Ferris, Sean Williams, Patrick Quigley, Tommy Ryan, Bartek Swatalia.
