Controversial Movie ‘Under the Skin’ Screens at Nenagh Arts Centre

Coming to Nenagh Arts Centre on this Thursday the 23rd October is a film like no other.

American actress Scarlett Johannson spent time on the streets of Glasgow being secretly filmed as she inhabited the role of a dark-haired alien seductress who travels through urban Scotland in a white van preying on men.

A loose adaptation of Michel Faber's 2000 novel, ‘Sexy Beast’ and ‘Birth’ director Jonathan Glazer’s film intersperses this hidden camera footage from the streets of Glasgow, with archly staged scenes, to great effect. Ostensibly the film comments on alienation and detachment within society as Johannson’s alien eventually has to reconsider why she is actually on Earth at all.

Described by the UK Guardian newspaper as ‘visually stunning and deeply disturbing’, this film is unlike anything you’ll see all year and is certified 15A – suitable for adults. The film starts at 8 p.m. on this Thursday 23rd October and tickets, priced at €8 are available from the Nenagh Arts Centre website – www.nenagharts.com  - or at the door.
