Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed the announcement of €310,652 for County Tipperary under the compensation scheme managed by his colleague Minister Jimmy Deenihan for turf cutters. Deputy Coonan said the monies are in respect of Redwood, Kilcarren/Firville and Ballyduff/Clonfinane bogs.
"Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, this week provided an update in Dáil Éireann on the compensation scheme for turf cutters affected by the cessation of cutting on 53 Special Areas of Conservation raised bogs," explained Deputy Coonan.
"The figures show that 2,883 applications for compensation under the cessation of turf cutting compensation scheme have so far been received and acknowledged by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. A total of 4,273 payments and 442 deliveries of turf have been made in respect of the applications received. In addition, 1,050 once-off incentive payments of €500 have been made to applicants who have signed and returned legal agreements under the scheme," concluded Deputy Coonan.
