The Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Association came together on Saturday July 6th in an attempt to break the world record for the world’s biggest football mosaic. More than 300 people from 25 Ladies Football clubs in Tipperary got together at Moyle Rovers GAA Grounds in Clonmel in the hope that they could break the world record currently held by BMO Bank of Montreal in Toronto. BMO Bank achieved an area of 9.75m (32 ft) in length and 5.94m (19.5 ft) in width giving a total area of 57.92m2 at their premises in Toronto, Canada on July 5th 2012.
The Mosaic at Moyle Rovers GAA grounds was built with footballs and involved each ball being placed side by side to make a picture of the words “The Horse & Jockey” who was the main sponsor of the event and who also, sponsors the Tipperary Ladies Football Intermediate team. When finished it measured an area of 22.25m in length and 3.44m in width giving a total area of approximately 76.9m2 and using approximately 1530 footballs.
The Guinness Book of World Records are evaluating the attempt to see if the world record has indeed been broken.
