Tipperary and Limerick have met on 64 previous occasions in the Senior Hurling Championship. All but two of those meetings – the 2009 All Ireland semi-final at Croke Park and the 2004 Qualifier at the Gaelic Grounds – were Munster Championship fixtures. The Premier county leads the way on 33 wins to the Shannonsiders’ 21 with 10 games drawn. Tipperary also received a walk over in the Munster semi-final of 1899 and Limerick had a similar experience in 1902. Their last championship meeting was in Semple Stadium in last year’s Munster quarter-final on May 27 when Tipperary won by 2-20 to 1-19. Limerick’s last championship victory over Tipperary was in the Gaelic Grounds in 2007 on a scoreline of 0-22 to 2-13 after extra time in the third game of the famous trilogy. Tipperary’s last victory at the Gaelic Grounds was in 2005 by 2-13 to 0-18 in a Munster quarter-final replay.

We wish the team and management every success for Sunday.

MUNSTER INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

FUNDRAISER AT CLONMEL RACES

Tipperary County GAA Board in conjunction with Powerstown Park, Clonmel are running a horse race meeting on Friday June 14 with the first race commencing at 5.45pm.  The proceeds will go towards preparing the Tipperary County teams for their upcoming championship games. General Admittance for advance ticket purchasers is €10 with barbecue food available on the night for €5. It’s €15 entry for people with no ticket purchased in advance. There is a Prize Draw of 2 All Ireland tickets for people who buy a €10 ticket. It is hoped that clubs or pubs could organise a bus to get people to the race track as this is going to be a massive social event with barbecues, bouncing castles etc with plenty of entertainment for all ages. The North division are organizing buses to carry punters to the event (contact Tim Floyd, secretary.tipperary@gaa.ie for details). Corporate Tables are available for the evening to seat 10 people at a total cost of €500 and this would be a great way of treating clients or business associates to a night out in appreciation for their support. The €50 per head includes entry to race, a Meal and Race Card. There will be a tipster serving all tables. An individual may purchase a seat for €50. To sponsor a race on the night will cost €2,000.00 and sponsors will be guests of the County Board and will present the winning owner with the prize from their sponsored race.  Photograph of same will appear in the local press subsequently. Sponsors will receive entry to the race meeting for 4 people with an Option of further €10 tickets.  Sponsors and their guests will be in the VIP section where wine and food will be provided, the Race Card will feature their names on the race that they are sponsoring, and as much publicity as possible in the local and daily papers.  The sponsors will also receive a half page ad in the race programme. County players will be present at the meeting to meet and greet the punters and divisional boards are being encouraged not to have games fixed on that Friday night.

UNVEILING OF MAURICE DAVIN STATUE

The weather was appropriately fitting for last weekend’s Maurice Davin commemoration events in Carrick-on-Suir. On Saturday, events commenced with a laying of wreaths and blessing at the grave of Maurice Davin in Churchtown Cemetery. The highlight of the weekend was the unveiling of the magnificent Barry Wrafter sculpted statue of Maurice Davin outside Davin Park by Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Liam O’Neill on Saturday afternoon. Later that evening former GAA President, Sean Kelly, opened the Maurice Davin and local clubs memorabilia exhibition at the Carraig Hotel. On Sunday there was a fun run led by three time Olympian and former World 5,000m champion, Eamonn Coughlan and an athletics family fun day.  Great credit is due to the organising committee for doing such excellent work devising and bringing this project to fruition. The result of their work is a highly appropriate and lasting tribute to Maurice Davin’s memory. The committee which was chaired by Bobby Fitzgerald also included Alan Faulkner (a descendant of Maurice Davin), Denis Landy, Sinead Dunne, Dick Lannigan,  Noel Russell, Pat Walsh (grand nephew of Maurice Davin), Sean Nugent and Eoin Kelly.

TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW

The first draw for the 2013/14 Tipperary Clubs Draw took place on Friday night last at the Templemore Arms hotel. This year a big effort was made to sell draw membership abroad and the first prize of a Skoda Octavia or €15,000 went to New York with St. Raymonds Gaelic Football Club winning. The ticket was sold by former Roscrea and Tipperary hurler, Brendan Maher. Second prize of a Skoda Fabia or €10,000 went to Deirdre Lowney of St. Patrick Terrace Nenagh with this ticket sold by the Nenagh Eire Og club. Over 20 other prizes of €500 and €200 were also won on the night. New draw sponsors, Acorn Life, are sponsoring a monthly prize of a weekend for 2 in Dromoland Castle for draw members who enter a specially confined draw – entry details are with the draw brochures. The first winner was Maria Hayes.
