ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE FINAL

Commiserations to the Tipperary senior hurlers on their defeat in the Allianz Hurling League final on Sunday last at Nowlan Park. Kilkenny won by 2-17 to 0-20. Tipperary put up a battling performance and fought back well from the first half concession of 2 goals. Congratulations to Kilkenny on winning their 16th league title. Thanks are due to all the Tipperary supporters who turned up in such large numbers on the day to support the team. There was a great atmosphere in Nowlan Park and the event was very well organised. Tipperary’s next competitive game will be the Munster senior hurling championship semi-final against Limerick on Sunday June 9 at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.


SENIOR HURLING AND U21 CHALLENGE GAMES

Tipperary have 2 senior hurling challenge games over the next 2 weekends. They will play Cork in a senior hurling challenge game at Cloughduv, Co. Cork on Sunday next May 11 at 7pm to mark the official opening of Cloughduv GAA’s new complex. Entertainment for the weekend is being provided by John Spillane on Saturday 11th May and by Natural Gas Dance Band on the Sunday evening of the 12th.

On Friday, May 17 they will play Waterford in the second of a double header of challenge games in Davin Park as part of a series of events in May and June to commemorate GAA founder and first President, Maurice Davin. The Tipperary v Waterford under 21 game will be at 6pm and the senior game will be at 7.30pm. As the championship season for both under 21s and seniors draws close both these games should be entertaining contests.


SKODA SPONSOR OPEN NIGHT

Tipperary will hold its senior hurling and football open night this Friday night in conjunction with Skoda at Ryan Motor Power main Skoda dealers in Clonmel. The open night is an opportunity for supporters to come and meet Tipperary players. The open night is being held as part of an open weekend at Ryan Motor Power and representatives from the Tipperary senior hurling and football panels and management will be present on Friday night and Saturday. The event commences at 6pm on Friday evening. Players will sign autographs and be available for photographs and there will also be some other novelty activities. As part of Saturday’s events, Ryan Motor Power will host a Skoda test drive day and will contribute €10 to the Tipperary players training fund for each test drive taken. Your support for the open evening and our generous sponsors, Skoda and Ryan Motor Power, would be greatly appreciated. For people who can’t make the open night, please remember there will be other opportunities to meet players after training sessions and to get autographs etc.


ELECTRIC IRELAND MUNSTER MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

We wish the Tipperary minor footballers the very best of luck for their Munster semi-final clash with Cork at Semple Stadium on Wednesday May 15 at 7.30pm. The winners will play Kerry or Waterford in the final. Tipperary defeated Cork by 1-10 to 0-9 in their semi-final game last year at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Tipperary also defeated Cork in the 2011 Munster final. Cork’s last victory was in the 2010 semi-final at Semple Stadium on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-9.


ARDFINNAN WIN COUNTY UNDER 21 A FOOTBALL FINAL

Congratulations to Ardfinnan on winning their second county under 21 A football title when they defeated defending champions, Loughmore Castleiney, by 0-11 to 1-5 at Boherlahan last Saturday. Ardfinnan’s previous win was in 1994.


BALLINAHINCH GAELS COUNTY UNDER 21 B FOOTBALL FINAL

Congratulations to the combination team from Newport and Ballinahinch, known as Ballinahinch Gaels, on winning the county under 21 B football title on Saturday last at Kilcommon when they defeated Upperchurch Drombane by 1-6 to 0-7. Ballinahinch previously won this title in 2001.


SYMPATHY

Tipperary County Board extends its deepest sympathy to Nick Wilson and Cathriona Clutterbuck on the sudden death of their 10 year old daughter, Emily Wilson, before a camogie training session at Gortnahoe on Saturday morning last. We also extend our sympathy to Emily’s extended family, friends and camogie colleagues at this very sad time. Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam og dilis.


TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW

The Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw for 2013/14 is now well under way.  Very successful launches were held in each of the Divisions. Nearly all clubs were represented at the launches where they collected all their Draw Brochures and promotional material.  Final Receipts are also in circulation to all 17,500 members in the last Draw.  Draw Promoters and Co-Ordinators will be in contact with all their members in the coming days and weeks. The first Draw for 2013/14 will be held on Friday, May 17 so hurry and be in with a chance of winning 2 Cars every month plus 20 x €500 prizes.  When you join, you are automatically entered in our Weekly Lotto Draws which take place every Friday in Lar Na Pairce, Thurles.  Lotto Jackpot every week is €1,000.  Remember for your €100 you are included in 2 Free Draws also. 


SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE’S MENTAL HEALTH

South Tipperary Sports Partnership in conjunction with South Tipperary Youth Mental Health Sub Group, South Tipperary County Council & South Tipperary VEC, is hosting an Awareness Talk on “Supporting Young People’s Mental Health” on Monday May 13 at LIT Tipperary – Clonmel Campus at 7pm. The talk will be delivered by Headstrong – The National Centre for Youth Mental Health, a non-profit organisation supporting young people's mental health in Ireland. This talk will describe ways to promote positive mental health in young people and is of particular benefit to sports coaches and volunteers of sports clubs.  The talk aims to ensure participants have an understanding of the key issues impacting on the mental health and well-being of young people, are familiar with the building blocks of mental health, are aware of the 5 a day for promoting positive mental health in 12-25 year olds, understand the value of listening as a way of supporting young people.
